Not to defend her or anything but it may be the case that it’s not a gov mandatory quarantine (I’m not sure!) but rather their uni etc is recommending only « essential » trips for 2 weeks

Thanks! that is exactly what I meant!
Getting used to one places particular language, currency and customs every few months is difficult. A full year in each country would really let yourself learn in my opinion.
Not exactly the same, but I used to tour with work. When we toured Europe we would wake up in a new country every day

I enjoyed it, but its exhausting. I would wake up and either check Google Maps or my diary to figure out which country/city we were in, and it's not easy having to change which currency/language we would speak in

This lifestyle is obviously necessary if you tour with work, but it's not a productive way of life, and I can't imagine attending online classes in such conditions

yeh its not a well though out system at all, either wau i think jade will claim to be fluent after her months there and be like one of those people who makd a big deal about forgetting english words in convo 🤣

especially not with having classes at such oddtimest

Of course in that nice spacious apartment she still has to share a room.

I wonder if they insist on the room sharing throughout the degree? I could maybe understand it in the first year, but 4 years of not having your own room?! I just can't imagine being 23/24 and still not having your space, it seems stifling.

As a German I REALLY don't appreciate them breaking quarantine like that! Sure, Jade did not have to go into quarantine because UK is not a country of risk right now. But Brazil sure is!! This makes me so mad! I am a college student too and unlike those ~qUirKy~ Minerva students we are in the middle of exam season (for me it goes from July all the way until October) and unlike them we actually have to take our exams in person! And that also means as soon as we show ANY signs of Covid or if there is ANY risk that we could have it (contact with an infectuous person, etc.) we are not allowed to take the exam. And those exams are only offered 2 times a year for each subject. Which means if I can't take it now I will have to wait 6 months to get credit for that class.. Also back in April they cancelled ALL our exams because of Covid and many did not get replacement dates.. Many students had to prolong their studies already because of this.. I am hardly meeting ANY friends and haven't seen my family in weeks because I have to stay healthy so that I can take my exams. This is just so frustrating. And right now the numbers are already on the rise again.. I am honestly a little bit surprised the Brazilian students were even allowed to come here in the first place since they don't even attend University here. I know that e.g. the USA has been banned for some time. Also I think it is reckless on the Brazilian's students part when they could have stayed at home and gotten the same education.. I just feel like all of this is a bit unfair at the moment. Sorry for the rant. The exam stress is really getting to me ☹

Edit: Also funny how Jade is freaking out about that room.. when NO and I mean NO student I know, even in the most expensive city, would probably ever share a room. It is not common at all to share a room with someone as a student here.. And even in Berlin a single room like that would probably be not more than 500€.

It must be deliberate to ensure no alone time to sit down and think about how stupid the set up is. Together at all times to sip the kool aid. Jade's dad will know all about why she's sharing a room. Brain training from the cult. In Juiceplus they have 9pm and 6am team calls... sleep deprivation is also a very popular method used in cults to ensure compliance. I'm sure Jade's class timetable is just a coincidence.

I wonder if they'll explore beyond the city at all. Obviously it's a weird time with travelling, but I noticed Eve talking about taking a weekend trip to Hamburg for work and I wonder if any of the Minerva lot will ever do anything similar.

yeh I was surprised they were let in too, I'm also surprised the UK isn't on the banned list we have so many cases. I'm not surprised all the students from Minerva are still travelling, without that aspect there is nothing exciting/novel about the course, they could have just studied an online degree( with a better reputation) in their own countries. That's a crazy system that they've cancelled exams and not rescheduled them! 🤞it goes well for you

God I’m so sorry to hear about your exam situation. I can only imagine the stress right now and if you just HAPPEN to get Covid (not necessarily from not following rules either) you can’t take the exam? 😞 That’s tough and definitely must feel like a slap in the face with these lot not following rules.

Is Brazil on Germany’s quarantine list? Like they have to isolate for 2 weeks or get a fine? If so that’s just outrageous that they’re not indoors.

It’s also SO irresponsible of Minerva to encourage students to go jetting about the world during a pandemic?? Also, international flights are hella expensive rn but I’m sure that’s got nothing to do with the diverse range of economic backgrounds Minerva students come from 🙄

I can’t believe they’re all squashed into one room. I would HATE to share a room with 3 others! No privacy at all and no alcohol?? Excuse me but what kind of uni experience is that 😂 (and I know it’s not for everyone but still) maybe they’re just soooo academic it doesn’t fit into their Silicon Valley lifestyle.

Also what’s the betting these residences are connected to friends of the people who run Minerva? So they benefit financially from these extortionate prices. May not be for profit as a uni but I bet their friends in high places are making a big buck somewhere down the line!

that thing about the calls is insane! (and not unlike the Minerva course schedule it seems). I can never imagien sharing a room, I'd go mad. I live with my partner and we don't even sleep in the same room half the time!

There's a Minerva manual I read once and they have an alcohol ban in all their accommodations, regardless of the drinking age of the city you're in. I don't reckon much partying goes on.

Imagine being made to stay up til 10pm to do a class and you can't even pour yourself a fat glass of wine to recover afterwards. Criminal.
I remember this was discussed on GG but they do tend to go out. Maybe not party partying but yes.
It was a time during which she had complained she had a lot of deadlines and wasn't meeting them but also going out to party. She then said that the students all had a certain amount of 'passes' to delay their deadlines without reason for all or most assignments they had and she used one. People there were criticising her for prioritising social aspects instead of obviously doing the work.

This was a while back and I don't think there are any sources for it because they were mainly IG posts but I can look back through the thread to find it if anyone is interested

I hope you commented that on her video, she needs told.
I mean she's made a mockery of it with her 2 days with her family anyway, so ridiculous. Very petty, but that story showing the "shrine" and saying how she had just learned that portuguese word, it's almost the same in the French she claims to be fluent in, how could she not get that? If I didn't know anything about her I'd think she was drunk in those stories, she seemed completely odd

Knowing her as you do, you know that she is indeed, a bit odd.

Her amazement at the apartment is bizarre, it's really nothing special it looks like a standard uni apartment in halls tbh. I would also much rather my own room than a big sitting room if that was the choice, I'd be jealous of that guy who has his own room

The whole grocery shopping thing is not only ridiculous, but actually illegal. Brazil is considered a high-risk country, as others have said. If you enter Berlin from a high-risk country and stay there for longer than 72 hours (or smth like that) you have to get tested for corona within 72 hours (or 48 hours before you enter Berlin), go into quarantine until you get your test results, and report to the responsible borough health office.
Considering that, I don't understand why Jade didn't go grocery shopping beforehand? Like, she could have dropped off her stuff at the apartement, and then get groceries for 2 weeks with her mum and brother.

i read this comment on jade's video in a very sarcastic tone of voice lol

I mean I have to say that in italy, depending on your financial situation, is quite common to share a room until you are 23/24 because often times if you study in another city your parents are the ones paying for your accomodation and that's just a way not to weight too mutch on their shoulders as shared rooms are mutch cheeper! But I couldn't accept paying as mutch as she does and not having my own spaces!
