Did you miss or ignore this part of the article? Labour is giving farmers more than Tories did and 10 times what they're giving overseas

Environment Secretary Steve Reed insisted that farmers remain the “backbone of Britain” and announced £5 billion into farming over the next two years, the largest amount ever directed towards sustainable food production.

As usual, details are scant on that £5bn, all my googling just results in "£5bn to be invested in farming, the largest ever amount bla bla bla" but never any detail on what it is for or how it will be made up.

Best I can find is that £5bn is via the continuation of Environmental Land Management schemes, which once again is an existing policy that the "tory scum" started financing a few years ago.

This government reminds me so much of how Meghan Markle and Prince Harry operate, any time they claim to be giving any money away when you dig into it it's almost always some other charity or organisation's money or existing programme that they're just somehow sticking their name on, or it's a carefully worded "future promise" that people applaud at the time of the pledge but the details don't come out for another year and then you find it wasn't what they said or implied. Nearly all of this government's giveaways or business "wins" similarly seem to either be something that was already in motion under the previous government that they now try to claim as their own, or the details are just not there and when you dig in it turns out to be something else.

Delighted to be proved wrong if anybody else has better google skills than me and can find out what this £5bn actually is and how / to whom it will be paid.

What's interesting to me is that farming appears to be in complete shambles and everyone is just okay with it or thinks that the solution is to invest more money into it and hope it fixes everything

Absolutely not. But when and where have they explained what it's to go towards, who is eligible, how do they claim it, etc. And perhaps it would be a good idea to inform the farmers who are upset, angry, frustrated and protesting against the inheritance tax new rules.

I feel like if you’re a farmer you’re probably more aware than the average layperson on what you qualify for and can get and where this money

Telling you or me wouldn’t benefit anything

Let’s also be honest - plenty of farmers are outraged because a benefit they have had is being taken away. Doesn’t matter if it won’t actually affect them, they just don’t like how it sounds

I spoke to a friend of mine recently about it very briefly. His family were upset. I asked whether his family farm qualifies - no but plenty of the farms around them do so they are upset on behalf of them essentially

Oh I can, indeed. I guess they conveniently ignore that they voted for the party who put this policy in place and that their precious Brexit massively fecked over UK farming anyway, proving that they never gave a toss anyway for farmers in this country.
We’re still in the single market and our farming is fucked 🤷🏼‍♀️cows produce a lot of gas but not as much as the government 💨
