I think DOP is firmly in the set, but due to geographical limitations she’s not as involved. She’s back in the UK atm and is posting a lot. Did anyone see her stories / posts about being stuck in Mallorca? She ended up hanging out with Bryony Gordon and someone else. She was extremely pissed off about getting stuck.

There was some drama a while ago with Sali Hughes and her friends bullying Dawn online. Can't remember the details, think I saw it on the Sali thread. I used to quite like Dawn but had to unfollow her a while ago as she started getting a bit annoying. Though tbf I don't follow any influencers online anymore.

Dawn O'Porter grizzling about being stuck in Mallorca for a week was a little First World Problems. I thought, honey, this is Palma airport August 2023, not Kabul airport August 2021.

I don’t think she’s part of the set. She lives in LA doesn’t she? Feel like she has a lot in common with them but tries to stay separate. A bit like Bella Mackie used to do although Bella is sliding into the luvvie set more and more.

She’s moved back to the UK. I think she’d love to be in the LL set!

Yes, panda did fan girl over her. Said that writing was ‘in her bones’ referencing her editor of the Guardian dad. That’s a fun way to say nepotism got her the gig.

Bellas book was literal trash. Can’t wait to read her second novel that she found painfully hard to write if the first one came easy

It’s interesting to hear a few people say it was crap because at the time of publishing there is always so much arse kissing going on with the lit luvvies are all falling over themselves to praise a new book and that seems to transfer onto readers for a while. I felt like people quite enjoyed it but now there is a bit of distance the truth comes out. Waiting for the same with panda’s word salad.

I was so disappointed in How To Kill Your Family as the premise was interesting. The execution was really poor; a writer of genuine wit and talent could have worked wonders with it.

Reminds me of Lessons In Chemistry, which I thought I’d love but actually I spent the whole novel wanting to feed it through a shredder.

I think a lot of LLs just don’t have the life experience with the source material The main girl in How to Kill was meant to be poor and consumed with bitterness at the inequality in how she was treated compared to her rich family, and can’t imagine Bella’s ever felt that way

What was most jarring was the way she shoehorned in commentary on Influencers, feminism etc that are just opinions de jour that were doing the rounds online but with no integration with the storyline.

I gave up on how to kill your family quite early on due to the above

I don’t understand why she didn’t just write a book of essays/observations??

I know, it’s kind of suggesting anywhere outside of London is obscure and provincial by comparing places to the arctic. People are asking about Newcastle fgs, not a small village, people asking about the latter would be fair game tbh but so would someone saying ‘can you come to Hampstead’?

Sorry, multiposting as catching up with this thread, but does Bethany Rutter count as a LL? The mention of Promising Young Woman (film) upthread reminded me of how she took great glee in it being described as 'Gone Girl for toddlers', but it just came across as massive professional jealousy given they're both posh lasses.

A lot of the LLs ghostwrite. I know Daisy Buchanan has and Alexandra Heminsley wrote Sara Davies's book for instance. I'd say Millie Bobby Brown 100% used a ghostwriter!
