Trigger Point

Caught up with last Sunday's episode and all I can say is it's made me want to watch the next episode. It’s a thriller. It's doing it's job. It was never supposed to a Hollywood production. BBC

Shows like this and Vigil are a breeding ground for criticism with experts (cough) poking holes in everything.

No. She may be most known for Kate Fleming but Vicky McClure said in lots of interviews Shane Meadows is her favourite writer and director and Lol Jenkins is her favourite role.

Vicky wanted to do Trigger Point for whatever reason and she said she’s proud of it. There are people who are watching it for her despite it being heavily flawed. I like her I think she’s really talented and she is absolutely carrying the show. However yes I think she would do well to step away from formulaic police dramas and I think she will. She’s doing well with her production company from what I’ve seen.

Lana was quite obviously invented with Vicky in mind, which I suspect helps with the wanting to do it. And fair play to her, if Mercurio and co will hand her roles that I imagine pay very well, nobody can blame her for snapping them up.

I do like her, as I said she's a brill actress, but I can see why people who have only seen her in this type of thing think she's a one trick pony as the characters are basically exactly the same person, even down to the "mate" thing, in a slightly different setting.

There’s a scene in tonight’s episode where Lana talks to Karl about the light switch situation that everyone’s been talking about since it started.

The writer liked Vicky as an actress from This is England and he thought she would be perfect for Lana so he called the character “Vicky”. It’s true she got it without audition via Jed Mercurio but fair play to her when Kate in Line of Duty had a terrible arc compared to Hastings and Steve.

roll on episode 3 x

Well I liked it a lot more tonight - I feel like it has definitely ramped up! I need something to look forward to watching and this is definitely filling the hole that Line of Duty left behind.

Clocked that John was dodgy last ep, and I’m also pretty sus of Lana’s brother and her cop boyfriend!!

Not sure I care enough about who it is

clever enough to do all that and trick everyone but stupid enough to leave all the evidence in your locker….. its more likely he’d have kept it on his phone?!?

Think it’s a bit too obvious to have all that evidence in a work locker, it won’t be him (John). Was a bit more interesting tonight, though the plot line is a bit confusing. I think it’s some far right terror cell that looks like an inside job, please correct me if I’m wrong!😁

This show is so woke.

1.3% of the British Police are black or Asian yet in this show it’s almost every officer. It’s a box-ticking exercise as most of them cannot act. The storyline is ridiculous and I cannot stand the female lead.

Why is Jed Mercurio et al. pushing the false narrative the UK has high far-right extremism and Muslims are innocent victims?

I don’t think it’s woke at all to suggest that there is a lot of dangerous far right rhetoric and extreme views in the U.K right now and I also don’t think it’s particularly unrealistic to suggest that something like they are portraying in this show could sadly be where we are heading.

I personally like seeing more BAME people in lead roles in big dramas such as this - I have no idea whether it reflects the true picture of the police, but it certainly reflects the diverse population of the U.K; in this day and age everyone should be able to see someone like them on screen in every show on television, and IMO they’re all playing their roles brilliantly.

I run a podcast so I’ve seen E4 of Trigger Point. I won’t give any spoilers but what I will say is there’s an obvious change of director. In a happy turn of events I found out it’s Jennie Darnell who directed Line of Duty 6. The camerawork is far less shakey too. It’s the first time I’ve noticed the fantastic score from Chris Roe which sets the tone for the episode perfectly.

Ohhh is it Shrine of Duty!

This is really exciting! Thank you for sharing. I rewatched all three episodes back to back and it has really grown on me, so I am definitely hooked in now!

I’m quite enjoying it. I know we expect guns and police chases like Line of Duty but we have to remember that show started as police procedural on BBC Two. The BBC threw money at Jed Mercurio once it became a guaranteed monster ratings success to turn it into a mini-Hollywood thriller for the mainstream (especially season 5). He walks on water to them. This is a new writer and ITV won’t do that so the budget is smaller.

I saw a comment that said the number of bombs is unrealistic? I’m not sure what people expect when the premise is a London BOMBING campaign. Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the Wee Donkey.

I don’t like the director so I’m happy to read it’s switches it up from the next one.

I don’t think he’s bent but Lana’s boyfriend gets on my nerves and she needs to dump him. There’s something fishy about the Scottish one.

PS Vicky McClure is doing a fabulous job fronting this show and she is radiating Lol Jenkins energy. Warren Brown is looking damn fine.
