We used to be Hertfordshire and my eldest was £68 a day then too 👀
But now we’ve moved Midlands way and currently £69 a day with a 5% discount for full time. No announced increases for April but sure it’s coming x

Also, I did take a £15K pay cut when we moved but my husband increased his salary and so balance! X
Very strangely one of 6’s best friends moved to the midlands in 2021… 🫣 😂

That was what had me concerned - especially as, if I'd gone back to work in the UK, it would have been days/nights/bank holidays and just not knowing 100% that you've got her right person. A friend of ours has a Norland nanny and you're looking at £100k+ a year
Well no chance we’d ever afford a Norland nanny 🤣 but £17/hr 8-10 hours a day is not manageable either.

Yes she’s full time, I don’t know what that works out to per day but £110 a day is eye watering isn’t it - how do they expect people to afford this? The thing that enrages me is that the staff are not seeing these whopping increases, it’s all going to the regulators and the directors and owners.

Childminders are rarer than hens teeth round here, they are just not available and the ones that are available I wouldn’t let look after a tin of sardines xx
I know it’s insane, we moved our little one to this nursery but we wouldn’t be able to afford it without the 15 hours funding. If he went there full time it would be £360 per week 😂 there is some twins in my little boys room and i said to my husband I can’t imagine having to pay for 2 at a time!!! On the one hand we are lucky my mum helps us out for 2 days but if we wanted him to go another day we won’t be able to afford it until we get any extra funding.

we are in Cambridge but sounds like paying more than some of the London rates and not getting London wages 😅

I wanted twins and now I just laugh and think god I was a fool, I don’t know how the hell people manage it.

It’s just nonsense. At this rate fewer and fewer people will be able to afford nursery so what happens then? Parents have to come out of the workforce which the govt say they don’t want but what choice are they left with?

It was one of the things that prompted our move in the end. Could we afford it? Yes, but I remember looking at my husband bawling my eyes out because I didn't want to be paying extortionate money to go out and earn money to pay for someone else to look after the girls and I just always catch myself thinking how difficult it must be for people who aren't in the position to have the choice.

I reckon you might be around the area we were considering moving to. I won't provide any more specifics as it could be revealing (lol, sorry to be all Mumsnet!) tit all in the way of childminders and nurseries acting like they're providing caviar on a blini with goose down duvets for naps when we all know they're the same as any other one; 20 kids and 5 underpaid, young staff trying to paddle water. (No slight on nursery workers, I can't even begin to imagine doing it myself!)

South East/London and £100 a day. She’s only two days a week and they don’t actually have the free hours until she’s 3. Whilst it’s eye watering, it has been absolutely incredible for her and I wouldn’t send her anywhere else tbh, never thought I would trust anyone with her who isn’t family but they are just so fab. They’re part of a school so I guess at least it weakens the blow of school fees 😂🤷‍♀️

pretty much par for the course in terms of price, most of the others I enquired about were £80-110 a day and minimum 2/3 days a week. There weren’t any childminders local to me and the ones I found all seemed to have issues spelling “childminder” when I went on their profiles/website, but wish there were more options round where we are.

Yes, same! I'm a bit of a stickler for SPaG and found it so frustrating!

Mind you, our childminder is amazing - she's like a second mum for our little one. In the grand scheme of things she's very experienced and loves the kids like they're her own so I'm glad I put my prejudice aside.

fair enough! I found one on childcare.co.uk. I got so lucky, she is amazing and I really trust her. She is rated outstanding by ofsted. I did see a few dodgy looking childminders at playgroups and out and about though who just let the kids loose and go on their phones.

We live in Wales and pay £55 per day, 8am till 6pm. This includes all meals and sundries. The funded hours aren’t available for under 3s in Wales yet unfortunately so the only respite is the 20% tax free. I love our nursery, they’re so good with LO. They had a Christmas party today and sent her home with a goodie bag that she’d decorated plus loads of decorations and cards she’s been making over the last few weeks, some photos they’d taken and printed, a piece of ribbon the length of her height (does that makes sense?) attached to a bauble, reindeer food and a letter form Father Christmas. I won’t pretend that I didn’t cry 🥹

Someone I used to work with, had twins. Her twins must be 9/10 now and she paid £100 each a day then (in London)🫠 she only worked 3 days funnily enough!
Birth rate is dropping isn’t it. People cannot afford it!
