Agreed as its been over 9 months (I think) she would be eligible for PIP. Obviously she knows all about how to claim disability. And she would have UC to top her off. There's extra you can get on UC if she can't work. She'd need support from a medical professional for PIP which I imagine that's where the complex grief comes in.

She can’t get PIP , she’s not disabled herself. I’m disabled , took me until I was 18 & going through the courts to get it. I’m 23 now btw.

She tries every way to get through the system but Kathleen darling , J isn’t here anymore , you can’t get away with exploiting him in life anymore

She could get pip herself as it also cover mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, agoraphobia etc it’s not just physical disabilities

It doesn’t work like that , you’ve got to show every single little bit of proof you’re disabled

I’ve been through to many different places & many different people. I have different mental illnesses , makes no difference

She's clearly grieving but the truth is that if she got a job, any job, even part time it would help her to have a routine and structure. She's so young I can't believe she gave up on ever working a job in her early 20s. I think the reason she struggles so much is precisely because she's lost her income stream and doesn't want to work but it could actually really help her in life. Eventually the charity balls, ads, concerts, trips to London for tattoos, holidays will tail off and then what?

You can claim PIP if you suffer from mental health issues. It is NOT just for physical disabilities anymore.

Pip is at most £152.10 a week if you have both daily living and mobility at the higher rate. The lowest you can get is £23.70. If you’re working full time for less then PIP then you’re not getting minimum wage. But typically people who receive PIP either work or receive other benefits in addition- because PIP isn’t an allowance to live off, it’s supposed to be a payment that covers the extra expenses of disability. EG someone that can’t walk far will have to get taxis more often.
It’s a point scoring process- there’s categories and you score points for things you can’t do. So yes you can get it for mental health by saying you’re not able to cook, you’ll forget to eat unprompted, you can’t manage your medication without help, etc. It is very difficult to get PIP and a lot of people get rejected and then get it on appeal so there is a level tenacity and knowledge of how to play the system needed, which ironically makes it very hard for genuine claimants. But we know Kath is used to this sort of process and how to embellish to get points, as she did it to get J’s Keira’s, so *if* she wanted to claim it for mental health I wouldn’t be surprised if she was successful.

Anyway we need a new thread title, anyone got any ideas?
