I think Children in Need is mainly a BBC charitable cause and I don’t watch the TV show (never really have) but they also have events going on all week on BBC radio etc. Vernon Kay did an ultra marathon this week on BBC radio 2 and they always raise well over a million just for those challenges. Either way, I don’t see a Royal lending their voice to any charitable endeavour ever being a miss… to my knowledge she’d just done a pre-recorded VT introducing the show?

It just feels very irrelevant to me. I don’t think many people watch it now.

The programme is appalling but the cause is good and they do invest in a lot of fabulous ventures.
They raised 33 and half million so someone must be watching.

Isn’t a lot of that through fundraising in schools etc rather than the programme? Just don’t know anyone who watches it and my children are of the age where it should be of interest. I loved comic relief and children in need when I was a child. But that’s not how children watch tv programmes anymore. They are an “on demand” generation. Maybe older people watch it? I don’t know but it just feels very outdated to me.

I just find Kate’s early yeas initiative very strange. But then I know she was on the programme so maybe that’s enough?? I also found when she played the piano strange too. Maybe I just don’t get what she is trying to get across?

I think she just is a person with zero personality where you can slap on whatever and it works well enough even if it doesn't get into the weeds, as they say they wish to do; it also promotes the image of her as this otherworldly perfect pwetty pwincess which is the vibe people I know have of her. She is so beautiful, perfect, can do no wrong, is so intelligent, her hair is beautiful, but nothing about her as a person. It was interesting in London - I was watching the State Opening of Parliament - and so many people just had the same parroting things to say. I don't know if it's because she's vapid or ruthlessly clever enough to hide herself.

We all know investment into a child's earliest years and formation is vitally important. What about most families then where both parents have to work to make ends meet? It's a good, broad *idea* but it's nothing groundbreaking as KP plays at.

Powered through all four episodes of the crown this evening. I don’t think it deserves the negative reviews it has got (although the bits with the ghosts - Dodi has one as well as Diana - didn’t work for me at all and I think should have been cut out).

Interesting portrayals of Mark Bolland and Dodi who perhaps have more light shone on them than in other dramas/retellings of Diana’s death.

Overall, it just left me feeling so sad for the children (as they then were). Seeing them walking behind her coffin will always move me particularly as they were so young. Made me feel more sympathetic to both of them as adults, remembering what had happened and trying to visualise having to cope with that level of public grief about your mother at such a young age. It will be very interesting to see how it finishes off. I can never quite work out if Morgan is sympathetic to the monarchy or not.

Mohammed Al Fayed would not have liked his portrayal in this series. I think he was more sympathetically portrayed in the previous series.

Just on Kate early childhood project I found this scrolling through reddit...I always thought that it was to raise awareness and research not for grants.

Similar stuff is being said about earthshot....

I found the piano playing and her sudden appearance on Children in need odd as well. She and or her advisers seem very opportunist and try to slot her into itsituations that make her look good. But that's how it comes over me i.e an opportunity as opposed to genuine care or concern.

I believe, and I may be wrong, the early years centre used 2021/2022 for scientific research etc. They’ve then issued their first grant this year to trial a new health visitor program that they have modelled on the Denmark version, hence the trip to Denmark last year. I’m not fully sold on the early years work but don’t think it was ever meant to give out grants as it’s main purpose

I take it this is going to be an annual event from now on ...

I feel like these are the events and areas Kate can excel. It’s a bit like the Hold Still project and book. I personally think she would be far better focusing on projects and events like these and the baby banks etc than the scientific early years stuff that’s just too political and out of her ability

Sadly I agree, which is a shame because I bet she does have a personality in her home life but it feels that she has tried to be as bland as possible as to appeal to everyone.
I've read that she has modelled herself upon The Queen Mother (Elizabeth Bowes Lyon) who said very little and smiled a lot in public. She was seen as a sweet, comfortable mother type by the public when, in fact, she was highly opinionated, bossy and imperious in private.
Kate only reveals very anodyne stories from her life and refrains from revealing anything controversial, political or personal. She appears bland but I am sure she isn't in private. The public can perceive her anyway that suits them - the majority will be inclined to like her because that is the way she is presented.

The thing is that the world has majorly moved on since the queens mum was doing royal duties. It was the norm then for women to be seen to be passive and frowned on to be more forthright. Kate comes over as sappy and pointless rather than a modern woman who has achieved anything in her own right, very sad in 2023.
