They keep manky old plaster casts for sentimental reasons but don't see the point in greeting cards!

It is very sad though. Even just the simple pleasure of receiving a card in the post as well (from someone they actually know IRL). I wonder if they just do without cards to try and disguise the fact that they barely know anyone and the kids have no friends? I guess it's less embarrassing to have no cards than one or two.
Also she said it was a waste of money to buy birthday banners. It'd be a fun crafting project for the kids to make some banners or bunting if Mrs £10k needs to save her pennies for all the other tat she buys. It's not like the kids go to many other parties (if any) so she should really make an effort to make it a celebration for them all to enjoy.
