The whole faux-amazed “I made this!” is annoying though. She is nearly 40 isn’t she? Her peers are posting about tablescapes with amazing dinner party dishes and she, as we have discussed many times, has the cooking abilities of a 12 year old food tech student. It’s not aspirational to not know how to cook!

The whole vibe of this nonsense reminded me of Marge Simpson at the country club, Marge saying “sometimes the most satisfying meal is the one you cook from scratch yourself” and the clueless rich lady saying proudly how her butler had already gone to bed one night so she microwaved her own soup.

The video fully makes it look like she’s never grated a potato before in her life. I can believe it!

(I do however believe her kids liked it. Mine is obsessed with salmon, and eggs and potato slop would be fairly tolerable for their ages I reckon. Also maybe they liked the sheer novelty of all eating together at the table…!)

When I first started following Alex, she worked at a magazine and was genuinely very talented at styling clothes.

Why she wants to showcase things she’s average to piss poor at (decorating, cooking, painting her nails!) when she’s actually got a properly marketable skill is baffling.

I guess because just styling doesn’t pay. Whereas branching out into the other stuff does.

I’ve posted this so many times. She was an excellent stylist.

I’m sure she’s watching the backlash against fast fashion, which styling mostly depends upon, and trying to pivot.

It’s just a shame her skill set really doesn’t include cooking, and only sort of stretches to beauty and DIY.

I think the thing with Alex is that she doesn’t realise how much effort goes into making things look effortless. Or she thinks it’s relatable to be inept at nearly 40 (it’s not).

Cooking and food photography is a whole genre in itself (dishes are held together with toothpicks, lots of lighting) - it will look tit if you just take an iPhone photo of your dinner.

Same with interior design. Tight angle photography and if you look at most frugal/DIY interior accounts it’s the same edited photo over and over again, not photographing your mess.

She also has a husband videographer who presumably can use a DSLR so they have no excuse really.

I did not know this! But it makes total sense now you've said it. Alex is above all, lazy. She posts under the "relateable" banner but in reality it's just mundane, sloppy, poorly thought out photos on her phone. It baffles me why she doesn't go back to styling which she is actually good at.

The plates are nice on their own, but combined with all her other tat it’s just too much! It’s like ikea - great products but if you have too much of it it just becomes very obvious. Alex is the same with Tiger. Soon her house will be the Tiger Tat Emporium.

Tiger/Ikea tat.
The dust from all that stuff sitting on shelves must be horrendous.
They aren’t tidy people. The only room that I think works in the house is the home office they don’t use. Good storage & big desks.
The kitchen is a mish mash of random units & shelves everywhere. A lot of the stuff looks as flimsy as dolls house furniture. So many shelves, prints & just stuff absolutely everywhere.
I love house you walk into that has amazing storage everywhere. I’m a messy person, I aspire to own a kitchen with tons of storage & nothing on the countertops.
I quite like a lot of Alex’s style but the pared back version she started out with, the current situations is almost worse than mine and nobody would want to look at my house on Instagram.

Not surprised in the slightest by this latest purchase. She can’t help herself and you can sense the fomo. They are nice plates but that’s the key point - as said above, shops like Tiger & IKEA do nice pieces at seemingly bargain prices and it draws you in.
Alex needs far more self awareness about her shopping and spending compulsions. These plates are not a considered purchase, the best part of 20 quid, mass produced, a fleeting trend etc etc. As ever it’s a glaring juxtaposition with her supposed frugal/considered purchasing usp.
