She readily admits to being obsessed with her weight which is part horrific part fascinating (the honesty!) to me.
I think she had a mortgage on a flat and was in a chain to buy a house when the flat market collapsed in lockdown and her buyer pulled out at the 11th hour. So she rents out her flat and rents a larger property for herself and I think is still rather aggrieved at the unfairness of it all. For someone who wrote a book about how social media is ruining your life, she seems obsessed with it. Maybe she needs a thread

I thought of Alex when Katherine Ormerod shared a garden restyle reel recently

It's just worlds apart from Alex's content in terms of style and professional polish. Katherine unintentionally manages to hit the mark with the frugal angle so much better than Alex. I'm a pretty new follower of hers though, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time until my raving turns to tattling 😅

Bit different and don't wish to derail but I can't see a thread on her so; thoughts on Katherine Ormerod? I quite like her, I think she has great taste/style but bloody hell the gurning and posing is really off the scale at the moment and I don't understand her latest "my landlord has put the rent up and we can't afford it" situation. She seems to live a very affluent, privileged life.

Probably the only influencer I don’t mind. Please don’t ruin her for me. 🙈

Katherine is whip smart, owns that she finds parenting difficult at times yet still does adventurous things with her sons, supports herself with ghost writing gigs alongside influencing, and doesn’t appear to have had a financial leg up from family.

Her styling is impeccable. She has interests beyond clothes and shoes, such as building things with her own power tools and sewing. She travels to interesting places and seems to have a wide circle of friends who often host her.

Katherine lost a late term baby and owns that their housing situation isn’t ideal with two children. Her brother was living with them but moved out and I think that’s contributed to their rent stress.

Ideally, no children should be on commercial IG accounts, but strangely I don’t feel hers are exploited. She doesn’t boast about them and there’re no mummy and me styling sessions featuring Katherine’s sons posed in stiff clothing completing improbable activities to sell pointless stuff.

The influencing she does is always on brand and her campaigns are generally clever so they don’t irritate me. You won’t find her sneakily pushing Amazon Prime Day affiliate links. I’m sure influencing is how the affluent lifestyle is funded, but she’s very clear that it’s financially tough living in London with a family. She is a very hard worker.

My only criticism is that her advertising disclosure could be better; fewer ‘press stays’ and more ‘advertisement promotions’ and her clothing collaborations should be clearly labelled at the beginning as advertisements.

I’d say in the early days of influencing, Alex did better, more accessible styling than Katherine.

They both had babies (and lost babies) around the same time but Katherine regrouped more quickly, probably because her family absolutely needs her income to support them.

Which just goes to show that having the bank of mummy and daddy to fall back on financially isn’t necessarily a good thing work ethic wise.

To add, she seems to use the ‘paid partnership’ disclosure at the top of her ads, so my mistake, she is labelling her clothing collaborations correctly.

Can’t afford sourdough, makes her own lollies to save loads of money out and about, and yet has budget to take a weird secondhand print to a framers??? Makes it more chic????

She has such a thing about frames! Most people just pick one up in Ikea or look in the charity shops for cheap ones they can repurpose.

You might be right on all this but.......
Why does it sound like this is written by KOs PR team? 🙄👀🤣

And yet… the very next poster agreed with me.

I’m pretty certain Katherine’s PR team (who happens to be the same PR team Erica Davies uses - another mostly unproblematic influencer apart from the #pressnonsense) wouldn’t post a bloody big CMA screenshot.

Then again, I’m also certain ‘public figure gossip’ doesn’t mean ‘only tear people apart, invent facts and write fanfic’. You can report my post if you feel it is too balanced to be gossip.

🙄

It’s a really interesting point and you see different extremities of this on different threads. Like you can hold the opinion that influencer marketing is problematic & remains largely unregulated, but also like some of them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Similarly you can think someone’s largely missing the mark but sometimes they do grow and become better, so it’s okay to compliment that! There are only a few toxic / unhinged threads where it’s like all who enter here must sign a pact of hatred. Thankfully this isn’t one, and I didn’t think the PR comment was anything more than a cheeky joke btw, it was interesting to find out more about her tbh so thanks for sharing!

I agree with others - KO has the edge that Alex is flailing for. She is actually interesting and, even though her lifestyle couldn’t be much more different to mine, I find her content relatable without having to resort to Alex’s current bizarre attempts at comedy reels.

Thanks for the intel on KO, it's interesting to have a bit of background. I really do like how honest she is about things - it makes her more relateable in a way that Alex just isn't. And I agree her styling, interiors and fashion, is great. I do feel she's completely obsessed with herself but then I guess you have to be to do that job.

I used to really rate her for the same reasons, honesty about finances and the ability to actually execute her DIY. She furnished & DIY-ed her rental home incredibly fast whilst pregnant, albeit she wasn’t exactly filling it with IKEA so money can’t be as tight as she maintains.

As you say, she is obsessed with her looks & weight. I gave up on her about six months ago when she went on a hen do & uploaded 4 days of non-stop gurning, thin-as-possible photos in lieu of content.

Was that the weekend they were all permanently smashed and Katherine wore an outfit that was something something? I’ve worn some outfits out at night that 💫✨push the boundaries✨💫 but I was two decades younger than her. I’m actually surprised she posted any of it as it was all so off brand.

But, at least it wasn’t thirty images of people wearing glasses, so… 🤷🏻‍♀️
