The Crown - Netflix

I think Charles came off very badly. As far as I'm aware, he wasn't cheating on Diana through the whole marriage, it only broke down just before and after Harry was born (although I'm happy to be corrected!). I also think it was stupid to give lip service to a bonkers conspiracy theory about Prince Philip murdering Diana, which is ludicrous and completely unfounded! I'm also surprised they didn't mention the IRA at all, apart from Lord Mountbatten being assassinated. It was such an awful period of time, I know the crown is about the royal family but they should have touched on it more.
I enjoyed Gilliam Andersons portray of Margaret Thatcher. I don't like Olive whatsherface portrays of the queen and I still fancy Tobiaz Menzies even as Prince Philip. 🤣

I thought after watching the episode where Charles dated Diana's sister, that he perhaps dated Diana to get back at her sister?
Would have been a whole different story if he hadn't dated her sister😉

ok so sue me guys i never seen the crown ive decided to tape the leap tommorrow as my sons back at school due to being ill (not corona ) is it really as good as the hype saids ? im not normally one to jump on band wagons when everyone else seems to like things is it worth it ?

First two series are the best. The third is the worst and the fourth is ok. The last two series have an odd habit of having one episode dedicated to something that really should have been 10 mins (Fagan breaking in, Philip getting in his feelings about being old and trying to fly to space). The fourth has Josh, Emma and Erin who are great as Charles, Diana and Anne. Also Olivia Coleman is less annoying as the Queen in the fourth series. Margaret Thatcher always sounds like she’s straining to do a poo. Her accent is rather amped up.

After watching ‘Diana in Her Own Words’ she says that Charles gave Camilla a piece of jewellery before their wedding and wore double C cufflinks on their honeymoon. She also said it was a miracle that Harry was conceived but they were the happiest in the 6 weeks leading up to Harry’s birth and then he went back to Camilla.

My cousins housing estate all stood outside and sang Ding Dong the Witch is a Dead the day she died. You don’t mention her up north.
I’m from the north east, I remember being in my catholic primary school and the normally reserved teachers running about shouting she’s gone, she’s gone. I don’t even think I’d reached double figures but I knew straight away that they were talking about her. I honestly don’t think we’ve ever fully recovered up here from what she did.

please tell me this is true
I think that was the rumour, although they havent been seen together. They are both quite private I think and dont have social media, so cyber stalking is difficult 😄

Yes I watched that. Camilla was around throughout their marriage. Whether at the start was a sexual affair or not, she was definitely his emotional crutch. And they were only married 3 years when Harry was born! The Disna bits look like they are based on those tapes as they are almost scene for scene Diana's words. Whether she was paranoid and lying is up to who you believe- Diana or Charles arse lickers like Penny Junor.

Anyone know why Emma Corin has only been cast as Diana for one season? I thought they all got two seasons.
Maybe shes too young looking? Elizabeth Debicki looks like an older Diana. I dont think Emma will struggle for work after this
Shes been a real highlight.

Yeah I was about to say this too. And also may be a bit odd if they changed Charles and not her.

I agree she was amazing! Looking forward to seeing what she does next. I watched a few interviews with her on YT and she seems really sweet.

Oh yes I'd forgotten we have Dominic West to look forward to for season 5 and 6, the smug git 😄. Oh well, he shouldn't have any problems playing an unfaithful husband anyway!

Oh no I didn't realise he had been cast! He annoys me so much so I hope he doesn't ruin it.

Yes his affair with Lily James story was a very odd bit of gossip this year. The posing with the signed letter that they are happy, wtf?! 😂

In my opinion the early seasons are better and so is the cast. I loved season 1 and 2 🙌

im not sure its been confirmed. I bet hell turn up with her. Shed have been out with Phil and his ( much older) son!

I love the Crown (said the republican). Definitely watch it! I concur with the posts above, the casting was better in series 1 and 2, but I have enjoyed Charles and Diana in series 4. And you might get the odd WTF episode centred around one particular event (the break in) or one character (Margaret) but it's back to your regularly scheduled Britain's most dysfunctional family by the the next.

Because two seasons are one cycle in terms of cast and there's no overlap.
Emma Corrin was with the 3+4 cycle even if she didn't appear in S3.

Even if that weren't the case, I think she's too young looking for 1990s Diana. Obviously Diana in her 30s was still young and looked fab, but there's a certain maturity that's in a 30s face that isn't quite there in a 20s face, it's not all just about wrinkles. Bone structure becomes more prominent in some people in their 30s, which leads to the "mature look".

If they haven't changed their mind about this, they said they would take the story only as far as approx. the queen mum's death.
So I wonder how they'll split 5+6 time-wise, i.e. will Diana feature in both. If in both it makes even more sense to have one actress play her.

I am sure they'll shoot back-to-back, like they did 3+4 (at least I think they shot 3+4 back-to-back).

I'm coming to this show rather late, but I have to say I have enjoyed the first 3 episodes of S1, and hope to have a weekend indulgence.

I'm not fully versed in the factual side of the royal family historically, so I don't know if the show will be taking too many liberties between fact and fiction. Nevertheless, it is sucking me in like a drug :)

I’m re-watching the seasons after watching S4. I’m on S3 (the episode where Charles goes to Wales) and I’m so bored! I was bored the first time round watching 😴
