The Crown - Netflix

I am watching season 4 at the moment. I don't really have much sympathy for Diana. From the beginning she knew Charles loved Camilla. I don't know why she married him? Maybe she wanted the palaces the clothes and hoped he would change? Emma Corrin who played her was very good. I remember getting the Lady Di hairstyle when I was a child :ROFLMAO: When I was growing up Thatcher was one of the most hated women in the Country. Gillian Anderson has NOT got Thatcher right. Loving the Michael Fagan storyline. I know it's dramatised for entertainment. It's interesting what happened in reality and what The Crown showed. Shocking that Fagan managed to get into the Queens bedroom so easy.

I've steamed through it and I'm now finished the whole of the series.

The girl who played Lady Di was very cute, loved the styling and her hair. I love Elizabeth Debicki though so I'm excited for her next season.

I'm really torn over Gillian Anderson's portrayal of Thatcher. I frequently forgot it was Gillian Anderson which is good I suppose but it also felt like an odd take on her. People from other countries who wouldn't be familiar with British history wouldn't know from the crown just how hated Thatcher truly was by many at the end of her premiership.

I read an article reviewing Anderson's Thatcher. And it compared her to Hyacinth Bucket. In that instead of it being a portrayal of Thatcher as the Iron Lady with the Poll Tax and miners strike and milk snatching, she wasn't the power figure rather she was the "inferior" figure compared to the monarch being The Queen. And it was a working class woman who has climbed to middle class status and is struggling immensely with fitting in around the upper classes. Which I could understand the perspective and did give a different view to how Thatcher was being portrayed within the context of the story.

I’m on episode 5 of this season, have to say I have been entralled by this season didn’t finish the last one but this has been far better

The casting is stellar, the best I’ve seen so believable and the performances are incredible particularly charles, Phillip, Diana and Anne.I thought josh O’Connor has played it beautifully and for me captured the feeling of most people towards Charles, you feel for him that he couldn’t marry who he loved but then the way Diana would have felt makes you dislike him.
I couldn’t help myself thinking what could have happened if he could have married Camilla from the start.Or what Diana would be like now.
I love Gillian Anderson but feel she maybe overacted slightly, although I felt the image created worked.
I know that it is ending early 2000’s to not interfere with current events. However I can’t help but wish there would be a series covering Harry and Meghan and featuring Kate and William. Interested to see other’s opinions on this ?

God this Fagan episode about the palace intruder is really boring 🤦🏼‍♀️ So many more interesting things happened in the early 80s, I don’t know why they made a whole episode out of this. If they wanted to make a point about the “system” there are plenty of opportunities with the mining strikes etc.

I agree, I felt the same about the Margaret episode, no need for a full episode about her, they could have referenced her more throughout the series.

Interesting. She definitely is the most hated politician and I certainly Dislike her, as I’m liberal, working class and everything she hated 😂 she had a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ mentality which is all very well and good but not helpful when life’s chips are stacked against you. She seemed to completely ignore that.
Don’t say her name in the north of the country, either, she REALLY fucked them over 😂😂😂

My cousins housing estate all stood outside and sang Ding Dong the Witch is a Dead the day she died. You don’t mention her up north.

I think that's because there's loads of people who are thick enough to look upon the show as a documentary and have forgotten that it's a dramatisation. 😁
See I dont think.thats true. I think its a narrative from Charles mates and Royal arselickers like Penny Junor to justify their problem with a fictionalised drama that people are too stupid to realise that Doctor Who didnt spend a couple of years married to The Queen and The Queen didnt look like the woman from Peep Show when she was younger! Its quite heavily based on Diana's own words, which the Palace PR machine have been trying to discredit by saying she was mental for years. Much of the stuff in The Crown has been either well documented or is age old gossip. Its the Royals and their lackeys who want everyone to think think the plebs are all dimwits to save their bacon! The truth is probably much worse!

What I’m finding difficult is that the characters of Diana and Charles are meant to be 12 years apart (though the way Charles look in the 80s it feels like it should be 20 years) yet Emma and Josh look the exact same age. The whole ageing up and progression part of the casting really goes wrong at times.
