Suspended sentence
According to the French news report, his sentence was suspended. So, it appears he’ll avoid jail time unless he does something else. In the US, I don’t think he would have gotten away so easily. Over 40 incidents, taking over 70 items? From churches? And a repeat offender (due to his military desertion)…I think he probably would have served some time in a US prison.

Besides isn't village gossip how we as humans shield ourselves from dubious characters? I know I'd have a hard time trusting someone who stole, lied and swindled.
