Poor Anne doesn't seem to enjoy motherhood - and you know what, I feel for her. She's in it now, and it's a life long commitment. I bet she adores Ralph, you can love your kid and not love being a mother. That's fine. It does affect a relationship too, for a few years. She's very lucky with all the support she gets though. I wish she would acknowledge that.
I have a two year old, I love being a mum. My MIL is nagging me and my husband to book a spa break for a night or two but I know I'd get there and be in the pool thinking "my son would love this pool". He's only going to be this wee, and adore me this much, for a small amount of time. I'm leaning into it. But to each their own, a happy parent is a happy child.
