Literally anyone can have a home birth. Its a womans right to choose. You can be advised against it but no one can tell you that you can't. Its just a case of saying "thank you mr/Mrs dr/midwife for your advice, I understand the risks and its my informed choice to have a home birth in my own surroundings" that simple.
Obviously it would be ridiculous foolish in some situations and if you were putting your unborn child at obvious risk there would be a chance of other services being involved/contacted to safeguard the child.
In most situations though medical teams air on the side of caution when a homebirth is perfectly safe. I have no idea who the person you are referring to is but I'm guessing its about her weight which would in no way contraindicate a home birth.
It's about gestational diabetes, in Ireland anyway if you have it you can't have a home birth. I assumed the Uk was the same but maybe not.

I mean the law says otherwise but HCP will often say "cant" its not actually their right to choose, it on the women thankfully.

I bet home births are so much nicer, but it freaks me out that you don't have every bit of medical equipment nearby. But I had the worst birth resulting in both of us being in intensive care so maybe that's why, but even before I had my baby I still panicked when home birth was suggested haha, what if the ambulance isn't there quick enough?

My sister didn’t want one but ended up having one when she was 16. My nephew ended up being born on his nans bed with no pain relief and he came out legs first. She said it was scary at the time but no one there knew what they were doing they obviously had paramedics and midwife’s but they had have more experienced ones on the phone. When she ended up having her second they asked her if she wanted to go with no pain again since she did with her first and she was like just give me everything

I had one last year and having another in December :) they bring gas and air, set up a space for resuscitation just in case and can arrange an emergency transfer. Honestly, I’m more scared at the thought of birthing in a hospital. Medical coercion, being denied your birthing rights and unnecessary intervention is very real and dangerous. 100%, support anyone (yes anyone!) who wants to home birth!
He the stats are - reduced risk of C-section, reduced forceps/ventouse, reduced perineal trauma/tearing, reduced infection, reduced severe blood loss, reduced untoward maternal events, no increased risk to baby. That’s publiclshed in the Lancet based on the births of 500,000 woman :)

I have been fortunate to have 2 pretty straight forward births but after my first I was still petrified of giving birth in hospital again , (I think just the whole scenario and being there can be scary) so i considered a home birth for my 2nd , I can see why people who have had an awful experience in hospital may want to stay at home if they can, (I ended up with a 2nd Hospital birth , went 2 weeks over so had to be induced anyway)
