I really like Lover as an album, despite it not being a fan favourite.

I always forget it exists (ironic!). I think the tour never happening and then folklore coming out kind of made it disappear for me.
Although I like a lot of the songs individually it kind of felt like a paint by numbers pop album for me and a step back from rep. It was as if she knew she needed a big tour-able hit for her new record label so kind of churned it out. As soon as she was free of that, she did folklore which always feels like reps natural successor.

oh I definitely didn’t think she should have done another rep sound. I think musically lover sounded like it fit between 1989 and rep, so it was surprising to me that it sort of went back to the pop sound when she usually changes with each album. I do enjoy the album though.

I really like Lover. It just wasn't the album I wanted/expected. Plenty of great songs on it. And I get it was like anti-rep in aesthetic.

My signed cd arrived this morning. The signature is slightly smudged, which is a good thing.

this. I didn’t want to listen to Lover because of Me! and it took a good six months before I caved. It’s such a bad song Cruel Summer would have been a much better 1st single or even Paper Rings if she wanted something a bit more whimsical.

I’ve always thought Begin Again was about Will Anderson who was the lead singer of Parachute — they were seen together a few times around the time of recording and they definitely have some songs about her too.

Having another listen and loving I Almost Do. I forgot how much I like that song, reminds me of a break up where it was so so hard not to reach out. Love this bit: "I bet, it never ever occurred to you, that I can't say hello to you and risk another goodbye."

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together sounds a bit weird, when she sings the high 'weeee are' part. I prefer the original version of that song. Also prefer the original I Knew You Were Trouble, in the re-record it's like her voice is too quiet compared to the music but tbf it might be my laptop..

I Bet You Think About Me has grown on me. I found it a bit cringe on first listening but it's been stuck in my head all day today haha.

Yes yes yes 100% to this!! Encapsulates my feelings about lover so much. I forget it exists too and wouldn’t sit down to listen to it in one go, but would listen to some songs stand alone. I think normally Taylor really changes up sound but for that I felt she just played it safe and it just didn’t zing for me as a whole. It was clearly meant to be a big album though with the way miss Americana doc hyped it up, but then it never really did have the impact her and her team were hoping.

This! Especially when she sings "Cause in this city's barren cold I still remember the first fall of snow and how it glistened as it fell. I remember it all too well" and she sings it low. I get goosebumps everytime and when the snow starts to fall during her SNL performance it's so beautiful. The first verses sound heartbroken and angry but this one sounds like she is looking back on it all. And for that reason I don't think I am ever going to listen to the original ATW, it doesn't have anything to offer to me anymore, which is something I thought I would never say.

I love the outro and the way it fades, but I wouldn't mind sacrificing it for a few extra lines I also feel like 10 minutes is not that long at all and the song is over before you know it but I probably would have said the same thing if it was 20 minutes long lol.

As for Lover, I really enjoyed that album when it was released (still do), but ME! is a joke. Cruel Summer should have been in the spotlight instead and it was perfect for the radio too. Everytime I heard ME! I just cringed and I hope it's not part of the setlist when she finally tours.

The 'twin flame bruise' line is ICONIC. It put into words a pain I didn't even know I'd been feeling.

I’m not on Twitter but I did have a tumblr and was fairly active on it around 1989 time onwards as well. But I find the desperation to be noticed by Taylor quite hard and I also found it hard to build up any followers etc so I barely touch it now!!

ME was a pretty cringe moment she tried so hard to make happen. I think she thought that song would smash, especially building up the Easter egg laden video, but it was just a bit of a cringe fest and felt so basic for Taylor.
