Don't come for me, but is "writing your own songs" a binary thing?

I can see why some people might not consider co-writing with hit makers like max martin not "real songwriting", not saying I agree but people have different interpretations of what it means. Albarn is (unsurprisingly) very pretentious about it all.

Co-writing is abused a lot; you get people like Beyonce who buy in songs and then change one or two words to get a credit. So it can be tricky to know how involved some are. Although Taylor obviously doesn't do this.

I think the issue isn’t co-writing, which Taylor has been vocal about giving writers credits in the past, it’s that Albarn actually used Billie Eilish as an example but she co-writes a lot of her songs with her brother. Taylor wrote Speak Now all by herself because of the industry’s opinion on her and she has said many times that she feels her songwriting is what sets her apart, not her voice.

On a separate note, if you research songwriters who have worked with Beyoncé they all say how much more involved in the process she is than people think, not just a word or two

I think the difference is Albarn approves of that kind of songwriting.

Sounds a bit like PR spin to me and in fairness she might be quite involved on some songs. But she's certainly bought completed songs in the past and changed very little to get a credit.

How much did she really change from the Halo demo to get a credit? I know she added a bit, but does seem disingenuous when people say she wrote it about jay z.

I used to love Blur, but Albarn has always been a twat. I don't think the others in the band liked him either, lol.

I could name 50 Taylor songs that are better than anything he has ever written. Unfortunately she'll never get the credit she deserves because some of her songs are poppy and she's beautiful to look at. Therefore she's just a dumb blonde.

Taylor has written every song she’s released and is generous with song writing credits if someone suggests a change here or there - she’s also written songs for many other artists. Women in pop really have an uphill battle in proving they have created their art. Not sure why it’s unfathomable that a teen and later 20s and 30s woman was as is capable of writing songs about her life and how it can be seen as a calculated Pr spin. She’s written about more than just love - her mothers cancer battle, her childhood etc. I think there’s a lot of misconception about her and I think some of it especially Albarn comes from misogyny and music snobbery.

I'm not sure why your quoting me with all that as I didn't dispute any of that or make points that relate to that?

Albarn appears to respect the Eilishs' because they write, sing and produce it all between themselves.

He appears not to respect swift as she's co-written on recent albums. Maybe using big name hit maker co writers is why he feels like this? He's pretentious and arrogant so it's hardly a huge surprise he feels this. That's Albarns views and people are free to agree or disagree.

In my opinion one of Swift's greatest skills is choosing people to work with. Apart from the Joel Little singles in the lover era (spelling is not fun!) she's really not made many mistakes musically. You can't do everything on your own and someone can still be real a songwriter with co-written songs, but there's a lot of abuse of this which does make it more difficult to know who's a real songwriter.

We've all seen the studio videos / making of a songs and know she's a songwriter. Imogen heap did a really interesting blog post about it. The swifties would be better off linking to those rather than just calling Albarns music shit.

The funniest thing is Jedwards post, where they sign it off Jedward, is the top showing reply to Albarn

It really is a battle of the best living musicians

Aww I love Jedward. Thoroughly nice blokes. And strangely gorgeous.

I'm going to a TS clubnight in Liverpool in March  we are going to dress as different Taylor eras!
Love this too. But live across water and too old to go clubbing. Sigh.

I can't wait for Taylor's middle-aged and flabby era.

I would love to go to a Taylor Swift themed party at a nightclub, but I'm too old to go clubbing too.

I just saw that there will be a Taylor Swift candlelight Tribute night, featuring a string quartet, at a nearby venue. I might go to that.

me too , too old and too pregnant to hit up the clubs these days ! I’d have killed for a Taylor swift club night when I was at university but not many people were shaking their things to speak now and fearless back in the day !

I finally got round to opening my Red CD and maybe it's CD production in general but it seemed really cheap. The case is thin and arrived smashed which isn't a surprise as her store just used a normal envelope that wasn't even a jiffy bag and it's so difficult to get the disks out - I thought they might snap it was so tight.

Back in the day I'm sure it was pretty easy getting CDs out without bending nearly 30 degrees before the case gave up its vice grip. But it sounds good

The signed one? Mine was intact. Still in cellophane though. Not that it'll ever be worth anything I'm sure.

Looks pretty steamy. I've read the book and it's not that dirty, but I'd say the pressure will be on to have lots of shagging in this one after Normal People.
He's a good looking bloke but his hair can be a bit too long and he's not conventionally hot exactly. Is he going to pull a Paul Mescal and become a huge sex symbol from this?

Taylor rumoured to be playing with Ed at the Brits tonight
Oooh
