Kind of ironic that Time made a ‘safe’ choice for person of the year to avoid being controversial and that choice ended up causing controversy. These swifties need to remember that Taylor also accepted the title when she could have turned it down and insisted it was awarded to someone more worthy 🤷‍♀️

Eh…people are always going to complain. Time POTY is more about being culturally impactful versus making actual change in the world. No one had a bigger year than Taylor. The only thing that was close behind in terms of impact was Barbie. There’s always something horrible going on in the world, people actually out there doing amazing things to benefit other people, it doesn’t mean that art and pop culture shouldn’t be acknowledged. I actually hate when people are like “what about x, y and z?”. This is just a popular opinion award, it means nothing in the scheme of things.

(FYI this isn’t aimed at you OP, but the commentary online)

i don't disagree w them, but i'd imagine this was all sewn up before 7th october made the war a part of 'mainstream' discussion.

I really love the FauxMoi/DeuxMoi subreddit at times but I wish they would put a ban on posting Taylor because it’s always the same top comments complaining about her 😂

It’s been a big year in general so having a celebrity as the person of the year is a bit of a joke. If you look at the recent winners the majority of them are connected to politics or social issues - main exception being Elon Musk seemingly but that’s probably a bit debatable because of the Tesla and whatever other space stuff he is doing

Apparently there’s an Entertainer of the Year award too so they could have just given that to Taylor

Time POTY is a business decision. I thought it was a bit suss that the interviewer mentioned being at the tour opening night back in March🧐 How long has it actually been in the works?

The reality is picking Taylor means more money for Time magazine, especially during a time when media is struggling. They have 3 Taylor covers. Some fans will buy them all. They would have sold advertising at a higher premium for Taylor’s issue. How much money did they make on clicks today to their site? How many social media impressions did the interview and Time brand get today? I also wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor’s people did some lobbying for it. It’s not the Nobel, it’s just another money spinner from a media outlet. There’s always more “worthy” people, but how much money does that generate for a magazine? Not as much as Taylor.

Taylor is really testing me as a fan this year. :ROFLMAO: Totally agree with all of your comments.

Like so many of you have said, her incredible lyrics do not match up to how she is portraying herself this year. I honestly feel sorry for her as can't imagine what it's like being her, she has everything she could have ever wanted yet she still doesn't seem content or at ease.

Anyone else watch the swiftologist billionaire video? I found it to be very thoughtfully done.

Really great video, thorough and respectful and I think the sentiment is one many on this thread share. We love her music, we think she's super talented, we support her tour and sometimes her merch even when it's sometimes not great (she says while she lounges in the terrible 1989 cardigan). But there's also critical thinking and valid concerns being shared. About her being a billionaire, about the pollution of her jet setting ways, about the quality of the merch she puts out, about her relationship with the media and her audience and what she chooses to emphasize, etc.

Really grateful for this thread 🩵

I'm an only child too and I agree... And from everything it sounds like her parents kinda treated her that way. Like moving to Nashville for her career (even if they disguised it as moving for her dad's career, everyone knew the truth). What if her brother loved PA? All the time spent with her on tour. Was he there with them? If so, he had to grow up on a tour bus. If not, he was home with only half of his parental unit.

People bristled last time I criticized Daddy Swift and I'm sure there'd be banning from Tattle if I criticized Andrea but honestly... They made some questionable choices and 100% put Taylor over Austin.
It must be really hard for Austin. They did make a push for him to become an actor or director or something movie ish. But doing deals to push headlines saying Austin swift will be a big thing obs didn't make it happen.
He's now very overweight and rarely seen. Definitely won't get that career Infront of the camera that he wanted. Even if he does have skills it's tough to make it behind the camera, let alone be the next James Cameron. Maybe his career will always be part of Taylor's team to do video stuff. Which isn't great either as no one will be able to push back or disagree with the big bosses brother.

Taylor is also slowly expanding into that sphere too so there isn’t much room for him to carve out his name without somehow being associated with her

Sorry but what does this have to do with anything? He looked perfectly fine in the picture in TIME to me
I said that not to fat shame or anything. But it's a reality that someone is highly unlikely to make it in the entertainment industry if they're overweight, unless a comedian. Didn't Taylor's mum ban her from having taco bell?
He has put on a lot of weight since he was doing the rounds trying to become an actor.

Maybe it was COVID, it hit us all hard 😂

He might have gained weight, but sorry he looks totally normal to me. He's a healthy guy. Would love it if we can keep weight chat off of here for the most part if others agree - it's a difficult topic for some people (including Taylor). I'm sure Austin has a hard enough time having Taylor Swift for a sister, the pressure might be unreal even if he is part of the 'small family business', and I just don't think weight has anything to do with it.
