I have not seen her grandparents house but as it was mentioned so often it looks pretty basic and that’s why people think they can’t be rich:
not everyone with money has a big mansion and a fast car.
has anyone heard of the house of that multibillion actor Bill Murray? He keeps living in his very normal looking house which he had before he became rich. Maybe her grandparents are exactly like him?
not to derail the thread, but just Googled bill Murray’s property and he’s got at least 3 mansions in CA and NY
Not necessarily but from my experience most of the people I knew did. Or at least a good sixth form.(Also going to Cambridge doesn’t necessarily mean you went to a good school either).
You don’t but, class is the biggest factor in where you end up, your status is fixed at birth, barely anyone can go from being working class to middle class (if class is as simple as 3 classes which it isn’t imo)Come on guys, it’s borderline insulting to Jess’ mum that people can’t believe she’s done what she’s done without coming from a wealthy background. You don’t always need money to do well. Some people are just intelligent, hardworking and resourceful and do it all themselves. I believe Jess’ mum falls into this category. (Also going to Cambridge doesn’t necessarily mean you went to a good school either).
OT but I did law at Cambridge and 4 out of the 7 students doing law at my college all went to regular state school? It’s not really as elitist and full of toffs as people think. (But yes I understand what you’re saying about class). You don’t but, class is the biggest factor in where you end up, your status is fixed at birth, barely anyone can go from being working class to middle class (if class is as simple as 3 classes which it isn’t imo)
But how rare is someone from a proper comprehensive going to Cambridge? It’s slim to none

But regular state schools barely exist now, grammar schools don’t count, state schools in middle class areas don’t count, it’s a lot more than just having the label of regular state school. How many pupil premium students do they let in? How many do they let in who have been in care or have been carers?OT but I did law at Cambridge and 4 out of the 7 students doing law at my college all went to regular state school? Her dad is a mysterious man.. not sure we know anything about him other than profession?I’m not saying Jess’ mum came from a wealthy background. But we’re talking about Jess and she has two parents. I don’t think her dad didn’t contribute to her upbringing. So if we’re talking about where she comes from money. I think yes.
Jess also has a tendency, like many who come from wealthy backgrounds, to make things seem simpler than they are. Because they always know richer people, and so they don’t consider themselves super rich.

I agree she could definitely have done so, the odds are just stacked against this being the case. If she does fall into this category she still must have mass income from other avenues. I know two magic circle lawyers (one old money and one new) and they could not live the life Jess' mum does with the same kind of disposable income. Maybe if it does come from Jess' dad she got a lot in their divorce. (if they were ever even married?)
That is also my experience having worked for a competitor. Especially those in Tax law.Honestly, without completely outing myself, having previously worked at the same law firm as Jess’ mum and step-dad, that level of disposable income/holidays/multiple houses amongst the partners was totally the norm.
Are those lawyers you know at MC firms both fairly senior partners though?I agree she could definitely have done so, the odds are just stacked against this being the case.
