At least Daryl is gone, he was horrendous. It was like watching a drier version of Brucie in his later days. And yes, that pro came off a total prick, it's a shame that some of the others didn't return though, and that there's no Natalie. There's one really annoying Italian male pro coming back this year who gives me the ick as much as Gio does. And I think hiring 50-something Ian who lives the other side of the world is a bit of a joke really. I wonder if any of the younger Aussie pros might be considered for Strictly given the connections? Dianne did a stint there before she came here.
I do actually like the other Aussie judges though. I actually don't think it will get cancelled because the last season rated quite well, but I do agree that the short format is a dud.
Yeah, I hadn't realised how bad he was until he came back. I didn't mind him in the earlier seasons, but oof that old-school 70s game show host shtick really is nails on a chalkboard now. I just felt a bit bad for him to be honest. It's not that he's a terrible host, it's just the only style he can do has well and truly had its day. Him still referring to 50ish year old Sonia Kruger as 'girl' was so awkward.
Yeah, I wouldn't have minded some of the others coming back. lol, I guess you mean Gustavo? I dunno, I don't mind him. He's a bit OTT and annoying, but I don't get icky FR vibes. Maybe because I like Jorja, so I assume he can't be that bad since she married him. Like three times, for some reason, lmao.
I don't dislike Natalie, but tbh my 13 year old self has never recovered from her winning with that clunky football player in 2006. Todd waxing poetic every week about how incredible and groundbreaking it was that the blokey, manly, masculine, heterosexual sportsman managed to put one foot in front of the other without falling over, while he repeatedly ripped the dirty ringer to shreds, a 19 year old chess master who'd had some ballet lessons when she was 8, is an injustice I'll still be mad about on my deathbed. Totally irrational, but I won't really miss Natalie because I get annoyed every time I remember it.
Yeah, I could maybe see some of the younger ones being an option too. I can't say any of them have particularly stood out as impressive to me though. (And I don't have an opinion on the new pros at all as I can't remember much about any of them, except that I think I remember liking Pia Miranda's pro.) Most of the pros with memorable choreography/partnerships and/or seem good teachers are no doubt too old for Strictly to be interested in, and have young families so probably wouldn't be interested in moving to the UK anyway.
Julian is young enough, but thanks to always getting annoying, unpopular celebs he's not had a long enough run to really judge his abilities as a pro.
I could maybe see them wanting Lily, especially as she's quite young. I think she's a pretty good teacher, I think her choreography's a bit hit and miss though. I thought she did great with Christian, Grant and Lincoln, but a bit less great with her less able celebs.
Alexandra was a backing dancer on Gio's tour a couple of years ago, and she said in an Insta Q&A that being on Strictly was a dream for her. Her (co-)choreography for David's Argentine Tango was quite innovative, a bit Katya-esque, so for a while I've been wondering if she might have a chance. But I think she might be bordering on a little old, and they're certainly not going to want two red-headed Australians at the same time/one after the other, so she'd have to dye her hair at the very least, lol. I assume she most likely auditioned when she was in London, so that ship may have sailed since she's back in Australia.
I like Lisa McCune, and I like Ian, so I'm sort of tentatively optimistic about their partnership, maybe. I was a bit shocked they didn't give him Julie Goodwin. It seems they don't see him as too old for a possible contender. I liked him with Virginia, but it annoyed me how the judges massively exaggerated how good she was. I will admit I was a bit baffled when they first hired him though for the same reason as you, but I think he comes off quite young for his age.
Anyway, I don't mind the other judges I guess, but I don't particularly like them either. I'm torn between thinking Todd's a prick and good riddance, and thinking it'll be weird and a bit bland without him.
