He's very sweet :)

We worked on ballroom tango. I had no idea what to request so I had a list of dances I was going to do at an amateur Dancesport competition - beginner (Bronze 1 I think). Anyway that was just the first one on the list. But he had me close my eyes because I had trouble with the lead/follow thing, having always done solo dancing in the past.

Anyway, it was exciting!

I wish his judging gig would have continued in Oz - the other two went to another network when Channel 10 gave up on DWTS. Craig and Sharna Burgess were the other two - I don't know if they're still at it.

Did you know Tristan has had two heart attacks? One in his mid-twenties and the other at about 36. And he has 3 small children, under age 10. He inherited a heart defect, something about the arteries not being in the correct place. I worry about him. And lately on his Instagram, his wife has disappeared! I think might be separated. She wasn't there when he came out of the jungle in "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here" - but his little girl was there and a big deal was made about their reunion.

Sorry... what -- me stalking, ahem? At least now it's only cyber-stalking instead of signing up for prolonged hugging, with a bit of shuffling around.

Oh and if you do a lesson, ask for tango - instead of connecting with your partner with your torso, you connect your pelvises lol! (well sort of on the side - because the follow has to lean so far back with the upper body.) He was probably grossed out but that's the career he signed up for... maybe that's why he didn't go the dance studio route.

Craig & Sharna came back to DWTS Australia last year, they sat out the two All-Star series during COVID where Channel 7 brought back the OG judges from 2004. I guess their contracts with Channel 10 eventually expired so they could sign with Channel 7 for DWTS unlike Tristan who was still committed to his other shows. Though now his morning show is over, I'm hoping he can come back to DWTS next year.

Craig and Sharna both judged last year and will be judging again this year. I imagine it's possible he could go back one day. Dr. Chris Brown's replacing Daryl Somers as host and he used to be on Channel 10.

I did massively prefer the Craig/Sharna/Tristan lineup to any of the more recent ones, it's such a shame it didn't continue. Covid fucked its momentum on Channel 10 and slashed its budget. tbh I'll be pretty surprised if it doesn't get cancelled again. Especially because they filmed this year's season quite a while ago now and there's still not even a release date announced. I actually like 3 of the celebs this season but I'm still not sure I'll even bother watching. It's utterly pointless in its current format. Pre-recorded so the audience can't vote and a tiny filming window (based on when Ian and Sharna went back to the UK/US, I'm pretty sure it's only 3 weeks!) so no one has any time to improve. Plus they changed the time of year it's filmed so about half the longer serving pros haven't appeared the last few seasons because it clashed with Burn the Floor touring. At least there was one little bit of entertainment that came from that. One of the young new pros came off an absolute tit in the rehearsal package in week 1 - went on about wanting to win and said something like 'I don't want to hear sorries, just be better' to his celeb, kinda jokingly but it didn't come off well - and Sharna gave him a right telling off for making it about himself instead of the celeb. He's not back this season. 😂

It would be a bit of a shame if Tristan and his wife are splitting up, after all the difficulty they had having the kids. I did think it seemed a bit odd his 8 year old daughter was there without her mum when one of the other contestants got both her young kids and husband but shrugged it off as being because her kids were much younger and twins.

Re: the heart defect, I was quite horrifed by them thinking it was a good idea to put him in a trial that used electric shocks! I mean, he's not dead so I guess it was fine, but still, what the duck?

At least Daryl is gone, he was horrendous. It was like watching a drier version of Brucie in his later days. And yes, that pro came off a total prick, it's a shame that some of the others didn't return though, and that there's no Natalie. There's one really annoying Italian male pro coming back this year who gives me the ick as much as Gio does. And I think hiring 50-something Ian who lives the other side of the world is a bit of a joke really. I wonder if any of the younger Aussie pros might be considered for Strictly given the connections? Dianne did a stint there before she came here.

I do actually like the other Aussie judges though. I actually don't think it will get cancelled because the last season rated quite well, but I do agree that the short format is a dud.

Shame Tristan didn't enjoy choreographing, he'd have been a good pro on these shows otherwise, bet most of the FR's partners would have had a better experience if Tristan was their pro.
Other than Jamelia, he pretty much always had pretty poor celebs, and in the 2 seasons of DWTS Australia he judged, he had the weakest group in the judges team up challenge both times too. I also assume it must be because he's a very patient teacher. He came across like that on I'm a Celeb too. They showed him giving a few dance classes, and he was very encouraging and supportive with the most hopeless ones, and he tended to be the sensible, level-headed one mediating conflict in the camp too. Like when there was some drama about some people wanting to throw a challenge, everyone else was sneaking around being all whispery and dramatic and he just marched straight over to the other camp and said 'we know what you're planning, knock it off.'

My favourite Tristan moment has to be when Len was going off his nut at Derek for too much flash and not enough traditional choreography in Kellie Pickler's Paso Doble, and Tristan's just standing there grinning away, not giving a single tit while Derek gets reamed, with his black contacts making him look like a mischievous little imp 😂

Where is this being shared? I was gonna book a class but not if it’s Kai, I wanted to see Pasquale 😍
I dunno. The next Ballando class is listed as being with Shirley and Anton (Shirl is obv Team FR). Can't see a mention of Kai. But Pasquale is organising his own via his insta which suggests he and Gio are no more.

Yeah, I hadn't realised how bad he was until he came back. I didn't mind him in the earlier seasons, but oof that old-school 70s game show host shtick really is nails on a chalkboard now. I just felt a bit bad for him to be honest. It's not that he's a terrible host, it's just the only style he can do has well and truly had its day. Him still referring to 50ish year old Sonia Kruger as 'girl' was so awkward.

Yeah, I wouldn't have minded some of the others coming back. lol, I guess you mean Gustavo? I dunno, I don't mind him. He's a bit OTT and annoying, but I don't get icky FR vibes. Maybe because I like Jorja, so I assume he can't be that bad since she married him. Like three times, for some reason, lmao.

I don't dislike Natalie, but tbh my 13 year old self has never recovered from her winning with that clunky football player in 2006. Todd waxing poetic every week about how incredible and groundbreaking it was that the blokey, manly, masculine, heterosexual sportsman managed to put one foot in front of the other without falling over, while he repeatedly ripped the dirty ringer to shreds, a 19 year old chess master who'd had some ballet lessons when she was 8, is an injustice I'll still be mad about on my deathbed. Totally irrational, but I won't really miss Natalie because I get annoyed every time I remember it.

Yeah, I could maybe see some of the younger ones being an option too. I can't say any of them have particularly stood out as impressive to me though. (And I don't have an opinion on the new pros at all as I can't remember much about any of them, except that I think I remember liking Pia Miranda's pro.) Most of the pros with memorable choreography/partnerships and/or seem good teachers are no doubt too old for Strictly to be interested in, and have young families so probably wouldn't be interested in moving to the UK anyway.

Julian is young enough, but thanks to always getting annoying, unpopular celebs he's not had a long enough run to really judge his abilities as a pro.

I could maybe see them wanting Lily, especially as she's quite young. I think she's a pretty good teacher, I think her choreography's a bit hit and miss though. I thought she did great with Christian, Grant and Lincoln, but a bit less great with her less able celebs.

Alexandra was a backing dancer on Gio's tour a couple of years ago, and she said in an Insta Q&A that being on Strictly was a dream for her. Her (co-)choreography for David's Argentine Tango was quite innovative, a bit Katya-esque, so for a while I've been wondering if she might have a chance. But I think she might be bordering on a little old, and they're certainly not going to want two red-headed Australians at the same time/one after the other, so she'd have to dye her hair at the very least, lol. I assume she most likely auditioned when she was in London, so that ship may have sailed since she's back in Australia.

I like Lisa McCune, and I like Ian, so I'm sort of tentatively optimistic about their partnership, maybe. I was a bit shocked they didn't give him Julie Goodwin. It seems they don't see him as too old for a possible contender. I liked him with Virginia, but it annoyed me how the judges massively exaggerated how good she was. I will admit I was a bit baffled when they first hired him though for the same reason as you, but I think he comes off quite young for his age.

Anyway, I don't mind the other judges I guess, but I don't particularly like them either. I'm torn between thinking Todd's a prick and good riddance, and thinking it'll be weird and a bit bland without him.

To be honest I never thought Kai was a looker and always looked 86. At least he got his two tone teeth done.

One thing I do like is he has a normal body and looks like a normal bloke from off the street - no pecs and posturing. That's refreshing but I wouldn't be sad if he left the show as he's pretty dull.
