No huge surprises. Montell rumba could be a problem for her. I don't think Popular is a great Charleston song but maybe they'll speed it up?

I really don't see Popular working as a Charleston and is Vito going to be Elphaba in it because Fiyeros not in that song.

I'm a bit iffy on Rumba for Montell, if I was Johannes I probably would have chosen to skip that one.

It's a great song but it doesn't scream rumba. I hope it was on her request list, otherwise the producers giving her a song about a Black woman's resilience for what might be her fourth unfair dance-off/exit is a bit too on the nose.

Not that it's anything close to being the same thing, but I was always 'The narrator' because I was the only one who could articulate and project my voice to the back of the room. Perhaps I wanted to be in the actual play!!!

Although I WAS the star in the musical one year, and it was called 'Big Chief Redfeather' (and yes - it WAS as terrible as it sounds.) because I had long brown hair that could be made into plaits. 😳😬 Let's not discuss the cultural appropriation.

I'd love to see Popular with a female same sex couple who can embody the roles. I think Sarah will be excellent at playing the comedy for this one so I can see why she got it, but I think unless Vito is going to Elphaba, it's wasted and won't work as the whole point of musicals week is to play the characters and represent the show. Glinda's not giving some random bloke a makeover, or will they just do a generic dance with her in a pink dress and green suit which honestly sounds a total cop-out.

I'm guessing most of us were at school in the 80s and 90s, it was a different time 😂

I'd expect a supposedly inclusive, progressive TV show in big old 2024 to be a bit more imaginative though 🫥

Also if they're going to use a race rights musicals song, bloody make it a Viennese Waltz to I Know Where I've Been from Hairspray!

I haven't seen Six so I just went and looked this song up on Youtube. Why the hell are they using this as an AT?!

On the topic of Montell's song, I don't think it really fits a Rumba musically or lyrically. I saw somewhere (maybe it was here) apparently the cast write down 5 songs they want to dance to do so maybe she put that down? Also, Cynthia Erivo has said this is the hardest song she's sung so I'm not really looking forward to the singers destroying it.

To me, them choosing popular makes it clear they only picked it because the movie is out. Popular is one of the most known sings from Wicked aside from Defying Gravity. The movie has been split into two with the second one out next year. Fiyero is only in two songs, Dancing Through Life and As Long As You're Mine. As Long As You're Mine will be in the second movie but would work a lot better on this show, even if Sarah would have to be Elphaba.

There's always one or two who get totally shite picks. Layton had a terrible selection last year but being a ringer helped to compensate.

I was a very good reader so I was often the Narrator but I was also the tallest kid in the class so if I wasn't the Narrator I had to be the male lead.....

A fellow “why don’t you be Scary Spice again?” over here too. I felt so much resentment towards Mel B for years because I never got to be anyone but Scary!

I sincerely hope that The Color Purple is revealed to be a request from Montell but I have a horrible feeling that that’s not the case.

A rumba isn’t going to be a vote winner so it’s just a case of who she ends up in the DO against - Pete, JB or Tasha?
