It feels like they’ve waited so long to announce the celebs that those involved have just gone duck it I’m going to announce myself
It’s not particularly my thing either, although Danny Beard was very funny on Big Brother late and live last year, that’s about the only one I’ve noticed. It would bring a bit of OTT glamour to the show though.I don't get the whole drag queen thing either. Casting one for strictly wouldn't really put me up or down though.
I really do not understand the current obsession with drag queens. Maybe that makes me a pearl clutcher but I just don't get what's supposed to be entertaining about them.
They have always been around, but they've been having a TV moment recently (in part thanks to Rupaul's Drag Race, probably)I really do not understand the current obsession with drag queens. Maybe that makes me a pearl clutcher but I just don't get what's supposed to be entertaining about them.
Drag queens aren't actually that progressive and certainly not representative of LGBT people as a whole. Whether or not one would make a good contestant on SCD is another matter.
Tom Dean confirming his participation makes me wonder about the rest of that list, honestly! It feels like they’ve waited so long to announce the celebs that those involved have just gone duck it I’m going to announce myself
What's your issue / concern, they've had several olympian / paralympians on over the years, pretty standard sign upTom Dean confirming his participation makes me wonder about the rest of that list, honestly!
I don’t get the about time bit either.I don’t get it either, and I don’t understand why it’s ‘about time’ Strictly cast a drag artist.
Drag is not a protected characteristic, it’s a performance genre (and, IMO, a performance genre that tends towards misogyny). Why does it warrant specific representation on a tv show?

If that is the case it’s about time we had a drag artist reading the news, as a weather person, presenting breakfast tv.
What about those furry odd balls. At some point you will tune into University Challenge and there will be a man hosting it dressed and acting as a dog.
Hard agree. Would quite like to see a clown reading the news. And by the same token, it’s also ‘about time’ we had a mime artist, or a juggler, or a unicyclist, or a professional clown, on Strictly. In fact, all circus-adjacent performance genres have been shamefully shunned (and no, Bacofoil does not count!).
These performance genres are hugely underrepresented on TV, and in the media more generally, so including them in Strictly would go a long way to improving their overall visibility and increasing levels of acceptance in society

Ah, that makes sense although history has told us that the rumours are always at least 50% rubbish so I rarely believe themI think the point was that as Tom Dean wasn’t on the ‘leaked’ list, it calls the veracity of the leaked list into question.

I'm glad she's speaking up but she has been painted as a "difficult" woman before this so I don't think people will listen to her sadly.Laura has said that when she tried to speak up ' I was gaslit to make it seem normalised.' So presumably she was told that what Giovanni was doing was fine and she just needed to adjust to it.

Not in the sense of having concerns! I wonder if they're right about the other proposed contestants, if it is the accurate spoilerWhat's your issue / concern, they've had several olympian / paralympians on over the years, pretty standard sign up
Women who don't stand for bullshit are always labelled 'difficult' and given everything we know now I bet that dynamic is also at play hereI'm glad she's speaking up but she has been painted as a "difficult" woman before this so I don't think people will listen to her sadly.
