It’s not particularly my thing either, although Danny Beard was very funny on Big Brother late and live last year, that’s about the only one I’ve noticed. It would bring a bit of OTT glamour to the show though.

Drag is not a protected characteristic, it’s a performance genre (and, IMO, a performance genre that tends towards misogyny). Why does it warrant specific representation on a tv show?

Drag queens aren't actually that progressive and certainly not representative of LGBT people as a whole. Whether or not one would make a good contestant on SCD is another matter.

Drag queens are already a performance type within themselves too, they have huge representation, strictly is just a different type it’s like trying to make a mashup of rugby and cricket

They have always been around, but they've been having a TV moment recently (in part thanks to Rupaul's Drag Race, probably)

If that is the case it’s about time we had a drag artist reading the news, as a weather person, presenting breakfast tv.

What about those furry odd balls. At some point you will tune into University Challenge and there will be a man hosting it dressed and acting as a dog.

And by the same token, it’s also ‘about time’ we had a mime artist, or a juggler, or a unicyclist, or a professional clown, on Strictly. In fact, all circus-adjacent performance genres have been shamefully shunned (and no, Bacofoil does not count!).

These performance genres are hugely underrepresented on TV, and in the media more generally, so including them in Strictly would go a long way to improving their overall visibility and increasing levels of acceptance in society

I think the point was that as Tom Dean wasn’t on the ‘leaked’ list, it calls the veracity of the leaked list into question.

I would love to see Louis Spence on SCD - as either the same sex pairing or not. Can you imagine. SCD are big into ringers so why not.

The rumours are always absolute cack! They’re just 90% wishful thinking with a side-order of scatter-gunning. On one of the fb groups someone has compiled a list of ‘rumoured celebs’ and there are at least 60 names on there. Odds are that some of them will be right, but that’s inevitable when you list every person in media who might have a bit of spare time in their pre-Christmas schedule

One person on that ‘leaked’ list doesn’t even exist!

Women who don't stand for bullshit are always labelled 'difficult' and given everything we know now I bet that dynamic is also at play here
