Shirley gave a reason and got absolutely vilified for it. If Layton had been in the DO with anyone else with the exception of Annabel and even that would be marginal, he would have been a goner and quite rightly based on that performance. It was a mess.
I've rewatched some of the Mark Ramprakash dances and there is far more purity about the dances.
Yeah the hate Shirley got was a bit unnecessary. She gave a valid reason, I also agreed with her. We all have our favourites but no one should be exempt from criticism. Especially in a dance show!!!

Laytons last two dances haven't been great (IMO) BUT I think he is the one who will give us a truly amazing and standout dance before the show ends!! But it's the legitimate criticism that will contribute to that if he (and Nikita) take it on board.

Most of what I remember is fuelled by indignation. I'd managed to forget Amanda was in this series.

I tend to remember general things, like Quentin Wilson, Fiona Philips, Kate Garraway and that lad from Eastenders being really bad dancers.

Then I remember Julian Clary in a frilly sleeved outfit and Karen and Mark Ramprakash having to start again because of the mic cable tangle.

And Nancy on Halloween week climbing out of a sparkly coffin.

Then I think I remember Annie Lennox refusing to have dancers wafting about in front of her, so the dancefloor was filled with candles.

I also have a memory (nightmare) of Anton doing a knee slide and landing with his face in the crotch of whoever he was partnered with.

And I can never forget how Brendan and Lisa wotsername really thought their showdance was amazing and BEGGED to be allowed to perform it after they'd been eliminated.
Oh how we laughed when we saw it.

Yeh, I remember stuff like that.

My favourite moment of the results show. 😁

Delighted for both of them.

I wonder if Amanda was still in it, would Annabel have dropped into a DO by now?
I wonder. I guess she'd still have done her CC though. I think Amanda dropping out really made it a bit weird - it has pushed Ellie into the favourite's position probably much earlier than Vito would have wanted, which makes her a bit of a target from other fans (see DS attacks passim). It's meant more urgency around the final, as the people scrambling for that fourth spot are now going for the third one.

I do think that ultimately Annabel would have been more popular than Amanda, who was being kept afloat a bit by Gio's popularity (and her own ability) but wasn't seen as very likeable.

I was sceptical about Layton at first but the reality is everyone had pros and cons they can bring to the strictly experience.

For example Annabel may not have performance and dance experience but she does have experience with gruelling training, pushing her body to its limit and great stamina. Ellie on the other hand has experience and confidence performing and getting into character but herself admitted she had never really exercised before Strictly and at the start especially was finding the gruelling hours tough physically.

It’s not all about dance or performance experience, in fact those things can be taught a lot easier than the physical side.

With someone like Layton yes he has experience performing and dancing to music but he’s having to untrain everything he’s ever learnt to retrain to a specific style.

As someone who has learnt everything about Ballroom dancing from Strictly 😁 I thought Layton’s footwork had actually improved (through the flapping material). He did a heel turn and that foot draggy thing (technical term) that they generally love.

Was it their best - heck no, but given the song, the musical timings, the fact he was learning bits of waltz and foxtrot it was about the best you could hope for. The outfits need burning (if they will burn. Other than that melting).

I think a lot of it would be the time needed to arrange the props - the one that needs the most time goes first
The one who danced first in the main show always goes first in the dance off.

i think the ‘no particular order’ is a production decision. If someone has been in the bottom 2 the week before and saved the next they generally get called out first or in the first batch. The ones with no chance of dropping into the dance off get called early, the first in the dance off is usually one who isn’t dead last on the leader board. The 2 left to the end are generally ones who could both be in the dance off. Sometimes they mix it up, but they have their formulas.

I'm sure someone will be along to say why are we sympathetic to Katya's reaction and slating Dianne’s but I've got nothing except for the fact that Katya isn't a bit of a bellend with tit hair.
I think for me Dianne putting out that video about how her sick dad wants her to win is what did it for me. Exploiting your parents illness in your eagerness to win a competition is horrible. That wasn’t TPTB manipulating viewers emotions through the show. That was Dianne on her own channel.

And she has tit hair and her screeching at her partners whilst dancing.
