God bless LadyLav for her continued delusion that the programme is ‘Stanley Tucci with dancing’ rather than Gio and Anton fall off paddle boards/play with golf buggies/eat weird food 😆

Vito food he made with D looked really good. Like a man that can cook, also really like his new boots.

One thing that slightly perplexes me about Gio - when he left home at 14 to dance, did he live by himself or with a guardian type person? Everyone makes a big deal about how brave he was do to this, not saying it wasnt a brave thing but isn’t slightly similar to children who go to boarding school.

The episode I saw I thought Gio seemed semi-detached from everything - he didn't seem to have a massive personal investment in anything they saw but he is also quite an odd personality so maybe that was it, as well as him leaving at a young age.
I honestly preferred Alan and Amanda, even though I'm not a fan of either of them, but they did seem to have some investment in being in Sicily.. I guess the final episode has his family in it so maybe that will have the big personal aspect.

I also found the 'intimate chat' while camping about settling down quite fake - it also seemed knowingly juxtaposed with the arrival of his one true love, Rose (even though Rose was giving off big 'bestie' vibes)

It seems quite common in the dance world - didn’t something similar happen with at least one Hough and Shirley?

It’s not massively clear- he mentions not having much supervision and staying out late etc. In Jamie Laing’s podcast he talks about it a bit more, I think you sort of end up connected to a dance school but you are largely left to care for yourself. He spoke about having to do a lot of teaching to make money, and based on the visit to his parents apartment in the third programme they wouldn’t have had pots of money to support him.

I felt a bit for his mum, it must be crap having him go away at a young age and then hardly come home, despite her being rightfully proud of his success.

Younger ballroom dancers seem to have a pretty rough life with leaving home. Some of the DWTS ones definitely have a fair amount of baggage to say the least and I reckon the same for our lot.

Both Hough siblings. Julianne went public about the experience apparently being abusive and really pissed off Shirley & Corky by doing so.

From what I've read about some of the Russian pros I think a lot of them are sort of recruited by a dance school who have guardians/ host families to look after them while they train and travel. Often at very young ages. The ones who come from money sometimes the family will be more involved and can move to where the dance school is based. And also buy partners like Worldwide sensation and cling film pervert Neil Jones. Mad to think Neil was such a highly sought partner and how that's never translated on Strictly. The ones who get bought often live with their "owners" too. Until they get Stockholm syndrome and marry each other.

Yes Shirley was both the Houghs guardian and they lived with them so they could train full time and go to all the competitions.

I think, unfortunately, for a lot of kids who are good at something and have ambition to take it as far as they can it often means moving to where the best coaching is … and its not very often local. Andy Murray was training in Spain at 15.

The worst case I heard was Pasha, trained at some Siberian bootcamp. And the old bint who ran it still seems to think her awful methods were good:

In Dan Walker’s book there is a chapter on Nadiya and her mum committed herself to supporting her dance career and travelling with her, whilst her dad went and had an entire second family behind their backs. How delightful 💀

ETA: from everything I’ve heard about Shirley and Corky and their marriage, living with them sounds like an unholy hellscape.

I’m beginning to suspect that LL is actually a satirical parody on the cult of the ‘super fan’. No one can be that relentlessly delusional.

Did the Houghs stay with the Ballases when they were younger? I didn’t know that. I find Corky indefinably creepy so I’m not hugely surprised to hear that it may not have been a thoroughly positive experience.

Oh that’s awful

I know she generally has long extensions but I love Luba’s hair like this.

Rose and Luba are proper strictly friends for life and I find that really heartwarming in amongst all the shipping and Strictly curse drama that goes on.
I love their friendship. I saw one of the nutcases saying the other day that Luba’s cryptic insta story was aimed towards Rose & Gio and how much she wants them to be together 🤣 I doubt Luba gives a duck Sandra…
