Totally with you on that one. I enjoyed Rose as a contestant and am glad she won and was representative for the deaf community etc. But truthfully, I moved on from her series ages ago, haven't really given any of the finalists or 2021 contestants a second thought since December (except maybe AJ, hard not to with all those shipping wars).

I want this series to be more fun. Back to just pure entertainment with some good dancing thrown in. It's gotten too sentimental. Not going to change as long as Sarah James is producer though, I'm probably going to take a break from the show after this year if she doesn't leave because whilst I still love the format and coming to Tattle during the show, I detest the direction she's taken it in.

I agree - the mawkish VTs and crying contestants/pros have become almost comical. The training schedules are ridiculous, not to mention clearly dangerous as we've had so many injuries. A return to everybody just having a laugh would be most welcome. I think this is part of the reason Dan Walker got so many votes - he was more like one of the old school contestants who were just there for the fun and that was more refreshing to watch.

I'm already braced for the contestants we might have this year: a female same sex couple, someone in a wheelchair, someone with dwarfism. Don't get me wrong I'm all for these types of celebs being in the competition and being as inclusive as possible but to hear the word 'significance' forced upon us every week then its going to start to grind on me :cautious:

Rumour has it that they are going for a contestant with Down syndrome this year, a young lad presenting on CBeebies.

Definitely a same-sex pairing as well. I feel like I'd enjoy them a lot more if they just let the pairing take it's course rather than constantly going on about the significance, especially since it's now been done with both a male and female pairing so they can't use the 'first time, barrier breaking' storyline again. Ideally would help if it was a contestant that I found easier to connect with than John or Nicola.

The show will start to go down a route of 'one size fits all' when we know thats not the case. The show takes its out of you, look at AJ for instance, but expecting something with learning disability to go 3 months is ridiculous. I'm all for someone taking up lessons but I think expecting someone with DS to do the show is too much. Plus imagine the weekly pat on the head he would get every week; Rose got it to a fair degree but I can't imagine what a lad with DS would get.

Yeah, I would like to see a proper romance spring up - feels like ages since we got one. Maybe they need to cast a few more single people this year..

I see Ranvir was at the BAFTAs last night but her and Gio did not seem to meet/speak, and she hasn't liked or commented on his post. Something bad definitely went down between them after Strictly..

John meanwhile took a pic with AJ and Rhys so the lovers of their epic friendship will be happy.

Not sure which pros are eligible for the romance storyline but would be interesting to see a real one this time around rather than shipping and showmances. Last one was 2018.

Please not Gio or Neil though.

Single pros (currently, as far as we know) = Johannes, Katya, Neil, Cameron, Gio, Luba? And of course Kai and Nadiya might well split up by September..

Picture of Johannes and John after the BAFTA's last night; imagine if this was a female/male partnership and what attention/backlash they would get from this picture when one half of them is in a relationship??

Top comment in the DM sums it up for me:

gio is a certain i cant remember when he wasn't linked to his celebrity partner.

2018 was a big one though wasn't it, i think there was 3 couplings that year wasn't there.

Yeah 2018 had Joe and Dianne, Gio and Ashley and Stacey and Kevin so 3 couple that year. And 2 are still going.

If 2018 had had a really good male celeb to rival Ashley & Faye and wasn’t l’année de Clifton, then it would be one of my all time favourites. That was otherwise quite enjoyable and I miss the drama.

In hindsight, the Louise Rainbow era was underrated.

2018 was the year of love and loathe. A bunch of pairings got together (including 2 finalists not partnered) whilst several other partnerships hated each other. Good times.
Who hated each other, I can remember Amy and Danny didn’t get on, was there any more.

Genuinely, I thought Sara last year thought that being eliminated literally meant she would be taken off round the back by the BBC bins and shot, not just never get to plod her way through a salsa.

One of the most ludicrous/amusing attempts at a tear-jerking set up was when they tried to give Chris Ramsey an emosh couple's choice VT but the most hardship they could come up with was him being self-conscious about his acne as a teenager

And all this was a lead in to a heartfelt routine to ...Let's Get Ready to Rumble

Just to be clear, I don't object to the daft routines, just them trying to be all x factor about it

Chris and his tongue in cheek tribute to Clearasil is one of the best VT’s ever.

The tone of Couples Choice was set from the get go though, when Faye mournfully intoned but who is Faye Tozer and then went and had a half face painted skeleton slapped on and whipped about a long pony tail in an attempt to find out.

Another favourite from last series - Sara declaring how much she loves her fantastically supportive husband, then cut to ...her whipping a bondage-clad Aljaz 😂
