Thing is they’ve done prerecorded pro dances before the pandemic. There was someone I used to
Chat with on twitter who got tickets for it (this was 2019) it was filmed the week of the Saturday the launch and pairing ep was broadcast. Doing prerecord session with an audience this year just makes sense. It takes the pressure off everyone even if it’s just the first 5 weeks worth. This way pros aren’t loosing valuable teaching time having to trek out to elstree to rehearsals for pros and then trek all the way back to central London where most of the couples rehearsal spaces are.

Yeah, I remember someone on DS saying they had tickets to see the record of a couple of pro dances that took place mid week a few years ago

I wonder if they'll go back to pairing them up in the studio again (complete with pros cheering and jumping up and down, even when they were paired with a mega-duffer). I think the VTs are much better but I imagine they cost a lot more to produce

I think it works better for the staging set up as well - and for the band and singers.

am I the only one who actually prefers an empty Clauditorium without the whooping and shrieking and Janette or Neil others trying to pull focus from the couple she is attempting to interview?

Yes the group dances, for the most part, were pre-recorded pre-pandemic anyway because of the sets needing to be changed for when Tess & Claudia walk on and the pros walking back on stage with their celebrity contestants. They would have to get changed very quickly and hair and makeup would need to be altered if the group pro dance were live

Good. We had to do it at some point.

Group dances being pre-recorded in August is probably a good idea to keep purely since it reduces the workload for the pros during the series, previously they had to juggle it with training their celebs.

Yeah I honestly don't mind the lack of audience and the empty Clauditorium. I didn't really enjoy the endless booing etc from the audience when Craig said something mean. And it always slightly irritated me when the last dance was interrupted by everyone running on.
Anyway, I guess SCD will have contingency plans in place given that infection levels will doubtless be very high in the autumn/winter - presumably what they did this year with infected couples missing a week max.

Just seen that Maisie has been cast as Fran in the Strictly Ballroom tour opposite Kevin Clifton. Yay for Maisie and I'm sure she'll be fab, but that nearly 20 year age gap between them is a big ick

Can obviously see why they would cast Kevin but I think he's a bit old to be playing twentysomethings (saying this as someone in their 40s)

To be fair he’s quite youthful looking. I don’t think he looks his age and can just about get away with playing a younger character

Most of the cast of the movie Grease were way too old to be playing high schoolers

Yeah, fair enough. It's probably the massive age gap that's a bit ick more than anything else. Although Kevin does give me the ick is general so that doesn't help 😂

Kevin generally gives me the ick. I can see why they would cast him as he’s ballroom dancer and a name that will put bums on seats but he is starting to look his age now. The fact he’s basically old enough to be her dad is a bit grim though.

I hope Maisie is up to the job and hasn’t just been cast for the strictly connection. Soap acting and stage acting are very different crafts and some soap actors are poor stage actors. She’s not got much on her CV beyond Eastenders so hopefully that doesn’t go against her.

I think it's gross too. Lots of young musical theatre actors who could play that part, but I guess our Kev From Grimsby will get bums on seats.

Had a look on the AJ & Kai AT for the first time in weeks and I see that it’s now absolutely dead 😂 Only a few posts about what AJ is up to and a post referring to Kai & Nadiya’s relationship as a “media car crash” … have I missed something? As far as i’m aware they have been happily together for months so unsure what the car crash they are referring to is 🧐

On another note it makes sense for them to drop the covid guidelines. They didn’t follow them last year any way so may as well get rid completely 😂 I’ve had friends that went to the pre recording of pro dances and pre covid they were done a few weeks before the show started, rather than months before like in the last 2 years.

Pro tour was great! Everyone was fab but I think on the whole I preferred the 2019 show. Nothing to do with which pros were performing, but just this show felt like it had less light and shade with the routines - fewer quieter, moodier moments and more full on FUN dances for most of the show. But there was this fabulous contemporary/ballroom routine that was a tribute to their mums which was my favourite - would have liked a wee bit more of that sort of thing to mix it up a bit more

And it felt like there were WAY more chatty segments, which is fine but I personally found some of them a bit cringy, and went on for far too long

A brief mention of why Cameron wasn't there ('travel issues'), but Arduino got to say a bit and also got his own page in the programme too

My favourite bits (tried to put in spoilers but didn't work so just scroll past if you're still to see it):

the mum tribute, a great cha cha group routine, the thousand years routine that Gorka and Karen led, Katya and Luba's Defying Gravity routine and Gorka and Nadiya doing the Into the Unknown dance he did with Maisie - weirdly, I didn't like these last two much on the TV, but they worked so much better on the stage. Also, the finale was this great tribute to British pop - super cheesy but so high energy and was a fantastic finish
