Me and the old dear were watching the episode of Come Dancing from 1979 (still couldn't escape the Cliftons)

Are Formation Teams still a thing??? It was fascinating watching them. My recollection is the Peggy Spencers team won every year 🤣🤣🤣

And also old time dancing like the military two step seems to have vanished into the mists of time.

Snap! She seems quite cold behind the eyes too me, just not true friendly.

I remember seeing back in 2017 when Nadiya, Dianne and Amy were announced as new pros seeing comments online where Luba was liking and commenting back to people who were saying they thought she was going to be announced as one of the new pro girls that year. I thinks its okay to be disappointed to not get the gig yourself but it seems in poor taste to be making that reaction public especially when it comes under the celebration of other people getting the job.

I just can’t warm to luba. Something insincere about her. She’s really playing up to the Rose friendship now.
Am I the only cynic here?

I feel a bit defensive of Luba (as someone that also has a resting witch face 😆), I feel like she gets a lot of flack because she’s not soft and girlish like other women that are seen as non-threatening and sweet, we’ve also seen very little of her personality on the show which isn’t really her fault.

Her friendship with Rose is vaguely funny in this context as Rose is conversely seen as a generally ‘acceptable’ woman to the general public- sweet and nice (and pigeonholed because of it), so they are seen as a weird match. The Rio shippers certainly decided at one point that Luba was only friends with her as she had eyes on Gio (lolz), but I’m sure Rose can take care of herself.

Personally, I like Luba. I find her refusal to screech, simper and be bubbly refreshing and she makes some very interesting and articulate points when she talks about dancing. She seems like an intelligent, interesting woman that is fine being herself.

I think her friendship with Rose is genuine - Luba was one of the first to try and learn BSL to communicate with her. IShe shares a lot of her friendship with Karen and Katya too so I think sharing content with friends is just what she does and she's clearly well loved by her fellow pros and celebs.

She's a stunning dancer too. That AT with Karen was 🔥🔥🔥🔥

exactly 👏🏻👏🏻🔥🔥

she is probably my favourite female pro to watch tbh, there’s something so gorgeous about how she moves. i didn’t realise until i saw the tour and she caught my attention in almost all the group dances she was in. it’s a real shame that we’ve seen so little of her on the actual show.

After the bad taste was left in my mouth after what I saw in 2017 I did have a look at her socials and she did seem to cling onto the celebs from when she was an extra dancer on strictly before being asked to be a full time pro, posting with them constantly. So thats why I do look at her friendship with Rose through a more cynical lens. Rose was the most popular celeb in 2021 and obviously had a very compelling journey.

I don't think she's a bad person or a bad dancer. I do feel a bit sorry for her in the sense that there really is no point for her there when they already have Nadiya there as the tall female pro and TPTB give tall male contestants to the already established pro's regardless. With the now addition of Lauren and Michelle shes has dropped more down the pecking order.

Luba did a programme for BBCthree (I think) a while back about her history in dance and basically being told pretty harshly that she was too tall for all the boys and that she was a freak and would never make it as a professional dancer, and how she had to really fight to overcome that. I imagine her and Rose can relate over that kind of experience too, amongst other things.

Luba’s programme is really worth a watch, along with Amy’s one on Crohns. I’d love Nikita to do one on dancing and Type 1 diabetes.

Thanks, I'll have a watch. I'd love to see Nikita's documentary - wasn't he filming something about diabetes a while ago? 🤞

oooo i’ll have to watch that!

i found amy’s documentary really moving. the things she’s been through and how hard she works to dance through significant pain and discomfort is a credit to her. i would love for nikita to do a similar one too.

That documentary was so powerful - it was heartbreaking seeing how she suffers and just how ill that horrible disease can make her. She's a brilliant advocate for crohns and IBD.

I found Amy's documentary compelling; looking forward to Nikita's one as well.

It's nice to see the pro's opening up about issues that they have; just showing that they're all ordinary people like the rest of us. Dianne talking about her body image issue's she had really spoke to me as a person who has dealt with body image issues myself. I saw Amy has spoke about the body shaming she's had over the years as well which is awful.

That was my Ringer Dancing Days(an hour on a Saturday morning) in the 1970’s … Military Two-Step, St Bernard’s Waltz and Lancers 😃

Luba, I like her, but, think sometimes perhaps her honesty can be misinterpreted. Like after Jowita/Hamza won the post she did kind of implied she thought Gorka/Helen should have won. The next day she did a congrats post to Jowita/Hamza. I do wonder if some of the other female professionals are little jealous of Jowita - coming in and winning on her first year with a celeb and only her second year on strictly. Which is an achievement. At the end of the day all the professionals come from a very competitive world. Jowita, I think is going to be one to watch - she is positive, bubbly, ambitious and I reckon fiery - why she is one of my favourites.

I didn't know Luba did a post like that...awks.....

I don't think they would be jealous, maybe envious but not jealous I would imagine. It's an achievement that a female pro finally won in her first year.

To be honest I think the true win in itself is not that glitterball trophy but what you can make from your time on Strictly when your on the show. You can win as many seasons as you like but what happens when you leave is the real test. If you've won a lot of series and walk into nothing or have nothing planned afterwards then what does it matter you won some trophy?? It wont be paying your bills.

Its best to start making plans when you are on the show such as brand deals, appearing on tv, events, getting your social media following up as much as possible etc.

Some pro's who have won the show you never hear from again and some who haven't are making successes in their own right.

I’m not sure reading until social media posting ever provides much of an accurate picture- this is the same sort of thing that brought us ‘AJ & Kai are definitely shagging!’ and the Rio shippers dumpster fire. Gio posted a lot that very much encouraged people to vote for Gorka and posted a very basic congratulations to Hamza and Jowita, despite the fact he was probably shagging her at the time 😆.

She did amazingly well on her first year, and that is absolutely down to her partnering skill, talent and charisma and I think she has a long future on the show if she wants it. Luba and other female pros may be jealous of her success, or they may not- realistically she understands how the show works, has good friends in the pros who have been finalists/winners and I’m sure if she was desperate to get a win/partner she could’ve moved to a lesser version of the show in another country and have got one.
