Tyler told MailOnline: 'I'm an emotional wreck. I landed at 7:30am and I went home, changed my suitcase over and I'm on my way to training.

'I was only in Mauritius for three hours. I trained all day Tuesday, and I went straight from training to the airport and I got there at 8pm. I arrived in Mauritius, who are three hours ahead, the next morning and the flight was about 12 hours.

'I was held up at the airport for two hours and it was an hour transfer to the hotel where my brother was getting married. I just got there in time so that I was getting ready with the groomsmen.

'I watched the ceremony, he said his vows and "I do", and it was emotional but as the sun was going down and everyone was having their photos taken, I had to say my goodbyes and I went straight back to the airport. I got there at 3pm and I left just before 6pm for the airport"

I'm sorry but this is not a sob story! you made a choice to do Strictly while your bro was getting married - you could have put it off till next year. You chose to make an environmentally damaging long-haul flight in the middle of your training.

Oh I see we have our VT/Clauditorium chat content:

'I have always dreamed about going on Strictly but out of all the weddings to possibly happen this year – it has really pulled on my heartstrings that I have missed the first ever dance with my brother and now my sister-in-law, Yasmin.
'Coming away from my brother's wedding I have a new level of motivation, I am so motivated to do the best I can possibly can and leave everything on the dance floor.
'I've got to make up for the first dance I missed at his wedding.'

ETA: for the record, I don't hate Tyler or Dianne, though this has annoyed me now about him..!!
I haven't read the full article but just from your quote, I don't see how Tyler is using it as a sob story? He's literally just recounting what happened?

Two thirteen hour flights for three hours is actually appalling. I know he would have gone for longer so the carbon footprint would be the same but selling it as a sob story in this economy is a bit rich - literally.
He has put his career before his brothers wedding -Olly Murs lost that relationship over it. Could he have taken a bye? He might not win if he did, but his profile has had a massive boost and he will do the tour so that’s money.

I want to like Tyler because I always feel sorry for the 'who are they?' contestants and want them to do well, but I can't warm to him. I don't think he's arrogant, I just don't find him endearing. I also thought his CC was tit - I'm not against street dance on Strictly, but it was poorly choreographed and him & Dianne didn't sell it well enough for me.

It's interesting to hear people's views on the pro dancers! The only one I roll my eyes at is Amy, but Karim is my favourite contestant ever (great example of a 'who are they?' contestant!) and I thought her choreography was excellent in that series, so there's still a bit of fondness there. Found her and Tom's relationship creepy even without watching last year's series though! Oh, and Neil is cringe too of course.

Did Strictly pay for his flight?

The pro dance this weekend is to celebrate Planet Earth, and to remind the audience of the climate troubles. Not very clever to allow the celeb to do a flight like this in the same week

Tyler is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't; if he didn't go he would be seen as competition hungry and the that fact he's gone he's now as bad as BP spilling the oiler tanker in the sea :ROFLMAO:

His family support him (his brother and his mum were in the VT last week) and thats what counts.

In other news.....

Anyone seen this article from Will?

I found this part quite interesting.

I don't know why they didn't send Dianne to Mauritius with him and he could have stayed a few days. They aren't averse to sending the pros where the celebs are, I think Kristina Rihanoff went to Canada one week because Colin Salmon had work commitments there.

3 hours before going back seems bonkers. And it would be an absolute killer doing two 13 hour flights in the space of a day and a half.

i remember kristina going to canada too (and rehearsing on the set of arrow, which colin was in at the time)

it does seem very dramatic to go for three hours. surely he and dianne could have gone, and then used a free day for rehearsal before coming home? it seems a shame to miss the whole day!

I don’t think using license payers money to send a pro to a private wedding would go down well with the public. Colin Salmon was working in Canada which is different.

Fellow Karim fan here! I was gutted when he lost to Kelvin although I knew he probably wouldn't win anyway
