So today’s poser…do we think 19 is too young an age for contestants on Strictly? Last year was Maisie and this year it’s Tilly - they have both received harsh comments and both years it’s been reminded that they are young. Should the BBC say or 21 or over, given there’s probably nothing they can do about any contestant being spoken about unfavourably in the press?

It’s clear the BBC want to attract a younger audience and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. But I know how Tilly will be feeling today and 19 is still young. Can the BBC protect her in any way?

My husband was living in his own flat at 19, my mum died two weeks before my 19th birthday and so many people are parents at that age so there is the school of thought that 19 is an adult and therefore you should act and be treated like other adults. But Strictly is a synthetic experience and it would be a shame for Tilly to have her experience ruined by some twit who’ll probably have a hard-on because everyone is talking about him
Was Karim not really quite young?

I never would have had Sara and Adam down as besties but just shows the magic of Strictly! This bit was interesting..

'I'm going to have to do it this weekend with the Rumba, which is what Adam did at the weekend.

'I feel so bad for him because his personal life has been a nightmare this past week and everyone is talking about it when all he's tried to do is give his all into dancing with Katya, which I can appreciate because that's what I'm trying to do as well.

'I hope it hasn't put him off doing that again because the Argentine Tango that he did absolutely calls for that.

'I have become really close to Adam he's one of my best friends through this process and I think if he was to do a dance and know he's held back and that's what cost him his place in the competition he would be so annoyed with himself. I can see him being in real mental turmoil over this.'

Has Adam had a slow ballroom yet? I feel like I'm imagining it
I wonder what’s gone on in the costume department this year. I wonder if they’ve had to lose some staff or they have a lower budget but it’s noticeable worse imo.

One of the first things I spotted when I started watching Strictly is all the women used to wear coloured bangles that matched their outfits! I don’t think you get them any more, bad times. I’m off to see if I can make a collage of bangles

ETA Pointless Collage

I’m not quite sure there’s a point to this bangle thing and I’m sure you can all imagine where said bangles are placed 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ola’s outfit though 🥵🥵🥵

Good spot on the bangles!
I miss the era of arm-hankies on the ballroom dresses - I thought they added excellent movement to the dance and helped the celeb ladies look more fluid!

I miss ballroom being exclusively danced in tails instead of high street/Primark ensembles 🙁

It annoys me that it's the Beeb's flagship show and they're slashing the costume budget year on year. Why???? Reduce the presenters and judges' salaries ffs. I bet one of Tess or Claudia's outfits costs more than several of the couples' costumes 😡

The foundation garments for the ladies have been lacking this year. Even the pro ladies have had some shoddy bodices! Spend some money on proper support garments please, it makes the dresses look that much better.

I think I read that a company called DanceSport (?) supplied all the gorgeous ballroom and latin attire to the show in the first say, ten years. This meant that the costume department could focus on embellishment and tailoring. There were literally racks of tails for each male contestant and pro male! And sometimes the pro ladies wore their own competition dresses 💜

Then the BBC severed ties (probably tried to stiff DanceSport) and it's all been downhill since. Dancing in trainers and so on. It's such blatant cost cutting under the guise of being modern.

Rant over 😂

I agree I miss the breathtaking ballroom gowns (Amy still gets gorgeous ones though), the tassely Latin dresses and the days of the Ola catsuit.

Did anyone else used to read the Strictly annuals? I must have about 4 on my bookshelf from the late 2000s still. There were pages that would teach you the basics of each dance - might have to dust them off😂

I read a while ago that four (?) pros weren't vaccinated, do we know who? I'm guessing Amy & Graziano? (not shaming anyone for either choice btw just nosey!).
