Lifting weights is so extreme - introducing kids to fitness should be throwing a ball with them, taking them swimming, going for a walk outdoors, learning a sport...

They have both come in for a fair bit of criticism over allowing Mia in their home gym during their work outs. Recently Gemma brought it up again and was rather defensive about it making clear she sees it as part of their family culture and those raising concerns were being bussy bodies looking for a reason to have a go at them. The don't seem to see the danger in a small child being around weights so I suspect they are delighted with her pretend ones. They seem like loving attentive parents but good parents still make mistakes.

I am starting to wonder if all the constant fitness is like some form of body dysmorphia.

Yeah, I considered gently raising a concern over the toy weights, but given the way she tends to react to criticism, I know she'll just laugh it off, no matter how it's worded so I decided not to bother. Hope it all works out alright for them all, but it's definitely a bit of a worry... 😟

Definitely think there could be an element of that. :(

Regarding Amy she’s also had some of the nicest costumes over the years. I think she’s clearly a favourite out of the pros. She deserves a duffer next year and less sequins. It’s her time
It was really noticeable this year, nearly all her dresses were lovely. That grey thing in the Viennese Waltz was a horror though. But compared to what poor Nancy got stuck with nearly every week, she got off lightly.

I feel like JJ was close enough to a duffer (even though he got a fair way in the competition) that she probably won't get one next year.

Vaguely Strictly related but went to see the Panto in Wolverhampton that AJ and Curtis Pritchard are in. Curtis definitely seems the more talented of the brothers. I noticed AJ didn’t even sing along with the whole cast at the end. Just seemed weird to have him playing the Prince but not actually singing to Cinderella as in most versions of the show.
@Tender & Tired thank you for opening the door, it must be about 9 days since I’ve posted this! Merry Christmas Eve!

I find this quite disturbing and a pretty toxic gift for a child. Mia is what 2 coming up 3 ?? I don’t think a child should be exposed to extreme fitness regimes like Gem and Gorks are into it might mess them up the same way kids can get messed up by parents extreme beauty standards etc

I find Gemma a bit of a hypocrite atm banged on about being in no rush after a Mia was born and she was taking her time yet is bringing out a 12 week new mum plan book.
Mia was gifted gym set - dumbbells etc - last year so she must have been 1/2 at the time. I had mixed feelings on it - she’s probably going to grow up into fitness anyway because they both are. But it struck me as an odd gift for kids that young - should small kids think protein shakes are what they should be eating?

Joe Wicks also seems to advocate his young children running around their home equipment - I followed his thread for a while - and the photos used to give me the dread!

I worry for Gorka and his exercising. I get that he enjoys it, and his sponsored posts etc probably give him a steady income unrelated to Strictly but two hospital admissions in a couple of weeks with something you guys say is likely related to exercise - that shouldn’t happen at 31 and in peak fitness, surely.

Was he already admitted before? I am glad he's ok but the NHS really has better thinks to do than treating healthy young guys for over-exercising. I think that ED and over-exercise are probably rife among the pros. Several of them smoke too.
I noticed that Oti had put on weight this year - I thought at first she might be pregnant, but it seems she just maybe isn't doing the insane exercising and dieting the others are engaging in. She looks great.

There was some chat previously about the Irish DWTS and letting go of pros that weren’t ideal weight. The one who had been ‘let go’ was talking about it. It must hard for them to keep up their size and fitness in such a field :( I think Kai battles a bit with it, as he’s naturally a big guy. ( no problems to me, he’s lovely either way) . You can see how much he’s toned up through the series compared to his lockdown with Gio state.

It’s such a harsh world by the sounds of it and there’s probably a lot of pressure for the competitors to stay a certain weight/look a certain way. I hope Gorka’s ok. Maybe he’s not totally healthy, I think exercising can be an addiction too and we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. For his (and the NHS’s sake) hopefully this is a bit of a scare and he can find a happy balance.

Dianne’s spoken about bet exercise addiction and her eating disorder. This was during the burn the floor days but there was probably strictly people there at time (can’t say for sure as she’s never really said when it happened so don’t know her cast mates at that time). But I think an exercise addiction can go massively unnoticed by everyone including the addict(more than an eating disorder would I think)
Given all the criticism a lot of reality tv has come under in the last few years I do hope there’s sufficient and good mental and well being support on offer to the pros.

That reaction is alarming IMO. Mia should be nowhere that gym not even from the damage it could do emotionally and mentally but from a safety point. She’d hopefully change her tune bloody quick if Mia hurt herself Same for the dogs actually.

6 month old baby holding a toy protein shake and weights... yeah that's definitely a big yikes from me.

Has it happened twice? If so, bigger yikes!

The link I shared was from last July and I think the most recent one is a gift from Fraser Knox - Gorka seems to tag him in a lot of stories so I’m guessing they work out together

I don’t see the toy gym equipment as being that deep to be honest.
Their friend is obviously in to fitness too and thought it would be a cute gift for his friends daughter because they’re in to fitness themselves.
The gym is obviously a big part of their lives and they bring their daughter to the gym with them and it’s lovely they do that and spend time with her rather than drop her somewhere else and not spend the time with her.
Gorka is a dancer and needs to be fit for his job, I could t get annoyed over a professional footballer letting their child see them exercise etc.
Gemma has also always loved fitness and I think it’s positive for a child to see that their mother can still be fit and healthy and do what they want to do for themselves as well as being a mother.
As well as their fitness Gemma and Gorka post a lot of food related posts and they do seem to very healthy in that respect where they train a lot but do eat a lot too.

I think they have their own gym at home in their basement, which I think definitely helps juggling working/motherhood/working out.

As I said I’ve mixed feelings about it. For me the weight and kettle bell are better than the protein shake for some reason. If Mia is into fitness as she’s growing up then hopefully she’ll be doing it because she wants to rather than because she sees her dad knocking his pan in and ending up in hospital, but still fitness is life.

I remember that Katya seemed to have gained a fair bit of weight during lockdown. I didn't recognise her at first in the opening dance in the launch show last year, her face was so round. I was astonished when she was back to 'normal' in the first live episode. Unless is was just bad make-up/lighting/dress/my eyes. 🤷‍♀️ Hope so, because it seemed a scary amount of weight to lose in so short a time.

I meant the two hospital admissions you mentioned. As far as I was aware, it was only the one a few days ago, but you said he was in hospital a couple of weeks ago as well?

This was his grid post from Tuesday - maybe it was just the one but when it was mentioned yesterday I thought that was the second one. Sorry if I’ve got that wrong

ETA - it would appear my sense of time is as bad as my memory - it does look to be just the once the poor guy has been in hospital!

I don't think people are saying it's necessarily that big a problem that she sees them working out, but the possibility of accidents. Gyms aren't really designed for toddlers. And you're not going to be doing your best job of supervising in the middle of a workout. It only takes a moment of inattention. Plenty of children have had fingers crushed by treadmills, for example.

Actually, worse than that, wish I hadn't just looked up how common that is, because google oh so kindly provided me with an image of a toddler with half the skin ripped off its hand and arm.

They're being very silly and I just hope something awful doesn't happen for them to realise it.
