Just home so sitting down to watch this, Fred seems reasonable so far. Aliaz looks so funny as an elf and he's not even started dancing.
Can't take the shots of Neil, might need a drink to get through his bits.
I actually thought Neil came across really well tonight. Not remotely fanciable, but did well with Mel. I suddenly saw the appeal of Graziano and he was great with Anne Marie. Pity she’s way too busy, as it would be nice to see her on the main show.

Watching the Christmas show gave me the feeling that Aljaz will stay he's the new Anton, he will be on permanent duffer duty from now on. He's only 31 but having been on the show 9 series makes it feel like he's an old timer.

Agreed - was thinking that was likely and once he got Moira, it was inevitable. He has the same qualities that made Anton appealing to most of his contestants and is younger so won’t look out of place in pro routines.

Watching clips of older routines on YouTube and I can’t get over how racy/tacky the costumes for women were. I wonder what made them change their mind or was it based on the industry?
I think it’s just a reflection of what’s in fashion both in the dance world and in the real world. Some of the early costumes were kind of that peak 00’s tacky which thankfully we’ve all moved away from.

Vicky said she(and the department) does work with the pros and the celebs individually to make sure they’re comfortable though.

Budget Buble - Jamie Cullum was great, better than some of the has-beens Strictly had on during the series.
Jamie cullum is more talented than Bublé just not Magic FM cheesey and I'd rather Cullum than that pile of smug, pub singer Barlow. Btw I do like Bublé too and I'm not Sophie Dahl 😄.

Christmas strictly - Moira, what were the judges seeing that I couldn't. She believes she can dance, the judges say she did a salsa, I saw a walk with some swagger like a drunk aunt getting up at a wedding.

(Also did you notice at the end group dance Oti danced her part with Aljaz and Moira joined them at the end for the applause?)

I think Jowita will make a good teacher she did well with Chiles and the height difference.

How did Mel get 40 for that street dance???

Anne Marie - very good but can't handle her accent/diction

Some of it was the style of industry at the time, Latin competition costumes back then could be pretty skimpy.

Anneka was so unbelievably crap - when she was announced, I thought she'd be quite good 😅

I really thought she would be good too. You could tell it wasn't an age thing she just didn't have the gene for dancing within her body. I rather suspect getting Anneka helped Kevin decide it was time to leave and take the risk of trying theatre.

Laughing my head off at the sheer awfulness of this routine, one last Christmas present:

How I laughed at this! Not at poor Anneka but at King Kev’s face when he realised he had actually been given a duffer 😂😂😂

I feel sorry for Anneka - I could be wrong but I imagine he put zero effort into that partnership. He’d got his win and he’d probably decided by then he was leaving. Odious little creep.

Shame if he is as he is more appealing than Anton as a dancer. I wish they would do away with the duffers and use celebs who can dance as I much prefer a talented line up

The thing about duffers is that they show people that anybody can have a go. I agree, it's not really fun to watch somebody who's crap but I think showing people with less (or no) ability is important. If everyone is good, you're basically watching a talent show.

I can see the need for ringers but I don’t think I’d watch if all the contestants were of a high standard right from the start.

I know Dan annoyed a lot of people but folk would be hard pushed to dispute that he was improving as the weeks went on, and some people do like a journey.

How do you get involved and vote if the contestants are all equally as good? They’d be as well have a programme of professional dances imo.

I'm ok for duffers if the production team show them respect instead of writing off as comedy acts in joke outfits. But it seems the Pro dancer and the celeb have the fight to go against the production's jokevision.
Anton became a parody of himself and I couldn't bear him as a dancer especially with rubbish celebs but he's great as a judge except when he channels Len.

Dianne is the target pro to make her celebs wear ridiculous outfits and I don't think she has the power (or interest) to fight a celebs corner like bill and Oti.
