Can't believe we're nearly done with another season.

Am I the only person who isn't as sad about it finishing as in previous years? I'll obviously miss our threads but I used to be gutted after the final and felt a bit empty, now I'm looking forward to Strictly free Saturday nights.
I'm looking forward to Christmas, but I've also found this series really enjoyable!

It seems to be a negotiation between producers and pros: John seems to have got 2 songs he wasn't keen on (Coldplay and Mary Poppins). I was positive we were leading up to a Coldplay appearance tonight or next week as there seemed no other reason to ruin the jive with that song.. Dan meanwhile said he had specifically asked at the start for the Eagles and got it.
The pros come up with a list at the start for producers (having consulted celebs if they have preferences) but certain songs get imposed. Gio often seems to get good songs: I don't know if that means he gets his way with the producers or is lucky (he got traditional AT music which really enhanced their dance).
So maybe Johannes should push harder? It’s not as if Giovanni is the only one who gets decent songs - I don’t think AJ has any memorably bad songs (maybe their Paso Doble, but that wasn’t the only thing wrong with that imo) and Nancy obviously got at least two songs Rhys had on a playlist from the start.

I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want traditional music for the Paso Doble and AT - John, I think, was very much the minority in having such a strong dance they could’ve been singing Humpty Dumpty and I wouldn’t have noticed. Tom and Amy’s PD was made by the fact they had traditional costume and music, bit like Kevin Clifton and Susannah Reid back in the day

Tbf, John seemed to have a run of his personal song choices earlier in the series - Claudia always seemed to mention how a particular song was important to him because it was a favourite of a family member's etc

And I think he might be a bit more vocal than others when he doesn't like a song ha (which I quite admire 😆)

“Ugh I hate Mary Poppins”

“I don’t even like Coldplay”

I’d forgotten he had songs that were poignant to him too, sounds like it’s pretty fair across the board.

If we’re going all out X Factor, the Judges will be deciding what they dance too next year.

@glasgow27, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this year and probably for the first time in a good few series I’m a bit sad it’s coming to an end. I’ve had so many laughs on these threads, that’s a huge part of it. I’ve loved Anton as a Judge, I’ve enjoyed seeing new Pros and others going in different directions and Tom Fletcher has provided my telly moments of the year for all the wrong reasons 😂.

Yeah, it is not a criticism of Gio: either he is very vocal or he has a better sense of what will work. Or has just been lucky - I am just struck that over the years I can't think of a really terrible song he's had (though there may be a few!). Actually the PD to California Dreamin' was not helped by that song..
Also possibly John is just alone in actually saying he doesn't like a song - I can't imagine they are overjoyed to have to dance to Rock Lobster or Cotton-Eyed Joe or whatever.

I suspect it helps when the Pro's have a good proven track record with the Producers for choosing good songs with great choreo it makes it easier for them to give a song they really want and trust it will be done well even if it wasn't originally in the producers plans.

Yep. They know Gio will get it right whereas a Graziano they might be 'hmm, not sure'.
I remember Vicky Gill saying Gio will sometimes veto an outfit for his partner, so he is clearly a micromanager and very involved.
I know Adam had wanted Tango in the Night and got it so clearly they listen to couples.

Joe and Dianne's Cotton Eye Joe Charleston was so stupid and I love it so much

edit: this one. Ridiculous nonsense but it makes me smile
