We’ve got video evidence of the thugs beating up police at Manchester Airport and those two haven’t even been charged yet.
Quite. And people are calling stealing £200 of lush bath bombs "serious crime" and justifying going to jail for that.

The police won't even visit when your home is broken into and thousands of pounds is stolen. They won't investigate that as a crime. But lock up people for bath bombs.

If only petty shoplifting was actually serious crime and the police didn't have way way more serious crimes to get on with.
---
It comes to something when people are arguing that serious crime shouldn’t be punished as it costs too much money.
You've made that up. No one said serious crime shouldn't be punished.

I said jail time for £200 bath bombs wasn't appropriate. Very dishonest to turn that into "people are arguing that serious crime shouldn’t be punished as it costs too much money."

I'd rather people like Huw that had pictures of the most horrific child abuse got jail time. I know someone who was violently attacked and sustained a life changing injury, his attacker got away without any jail time. Those are serious crimes not bath bombs.

No one in the Labour cabinet has ever started or run a business. They've all been on the public purse for their lives.

It's 6th form politics from a load of career politicians and union reps who've never had to worry about losses as someone else's money can plug any gaps.
I think that that is an issue in Politics across the board.
As someone who has run both a Sole Trader business and a Ltd Company with employees I've always maintained that 500 small business owners would sort out the NHS within a year.
You become so used to finding and eliminating every unnecessary purchase and making sure everything adds value.

I've always thought you shouldn't be able to run for being an MP (can't think of the proper term right now!) unless and until you have worked in 'normal' jobs for several years. Just shooting out of uni and into politics makes for dreadfully blinkered views.
What makes me laugh is all of the SpAds running around the senior politicians, treating them like Gods and “advising” them when they’re straight out of university or a cosetted job in the civil service.

I'm sure Farage knows full well the legal process involved but just loves doing his usual inciting.

I hate cancel culture. Narcissists like Farage should be called-out often and always. They should be given a platform wherever possible. So that reasonable people can show them up to be exactly what they are.

We have a massive problem now though because I believe the press, broadcast media, etc. have failed. They do not do their job anymore to hold people like Farage (or Trump) to account. It's always been about profit I get that, but now we're beyond that model. It's ALL about profit now. And as the media model continues to fail (due to other forms of media being consumed) it will get worse.

I'll stop. This is a Keir Starmer thread. I need to find the 'The Corporate Media is Fucked and is bleeping Us' thread. 😬

True is a problem with politics in general and full of career politicians, but I think this labour cabinet is too the extreme without anyone of experience in business.

Rachel Thieves had a job with the Bank of England. Sadly it didn’t do her much good because as an opposition MP she ended up having her parliamentary credit card suspended due to the amount of debt she was racking up.
She also expressed concern that her outgoings exceeded her income despite her and her husband earning £250k pa between them. What sort of lifestyle were a couple of civil servants living in Leeds having to be getting through that sort of cash? Typical champagne socialist hypocrites.

I know theres a bit of a stereotype that some in the civil service don't like it when a person with experience of a field gets made minister for it. How true that actually is these days I don't know.

Typical champagne socialist hypocrites.

Long story short, I was close with someone who appears on TV as a so-called 'left-wing' 'commentator'. She was on the other day lecturing about climate change. Seriously, this woman has had more long-haul flights and foreign holidays in the past 10 years than 90 percent of us would have in a dozen lifetimes. As you say, it's not the sentiment, it's the bleeping rank hypocrisy of champagne socialists that do my bleeping head in. Personally, I couldn't give a toss if you want tickets for Taylor Swift etc. etc. just don't bleeping tell us to 'tighten-our-belts', you can go do one.

I've worked in the public sector, and the whole sector in general could do with a business minded approach. The lack of logic and money wastage is astronomical.

Of course you still need an understanding of the service you are offering. Going by a spreadsheet alone isn't enough. But there are definitely areas that could easily be tightened up/got rid of (catering for one!).

She got caught out lying this week about being a chess champion. I guess she thought it was obscure enough to lie about and didn't think there would be records to catch her out

What kind of bleep does that?
