Maybe you could. I'm not even sure if building it is the problem. It's getting people to staff it that is the issue.

People are up in arms about us paying doctors more, imagine how much they will protest if we start dropping millions on new prisons and offering decent salaries to the staff to attract people.

But then they also complain prisons are overcrowded and the tactic of releasing non violent offenders who have served 40% of their sentence to free up space. Lose / lose really.

It's been said before, you can build a prison relatively easily, indeed there are actually secure portable building versions that can be thrown up in weeks, I can't remember who but one of the former home secretaries showed them. The problem is not the building, it's finding the staff, they already cannot get enough (competent) people to staff the existing prisons.

The Civil Service are currently advertising for ex Prison Officers to go back into the prison service. If you've been out of the service less than five years they'll fast track you back in, by-passing a lot of the normal tests you usually have to undergo.

Yes exactly. Look at how efficiently we built Nightingale hospitals and how they soon closed as we couldn't get the staff.

I don't know about you guize, but I find it increasingly difficult to differentiate between who should be in prison and who shouldn't; who are the innocent and who are the criminals. :cautious:

I pity the poor souls stuck listening to this drivel (not his fault of course, I'm sure he didn't write it). The kind of people who go to Conferences aren't really 'my kind of people' of course ... so they deserve it :ROFLMAO:
Almost as bad as the insett that teachers have to sit through every year listening to managers who haven't been in a classroom for years drone on about pointless crap that they could have just emailed us, but they are narcissists that love the sound of their own voices!

I would like to know whether Lord Ali’s meetings with genocidal maniac Bashar Al Assad had any influence on Labour policy towards Syria. Because what Assad did to his own people is beyond the stuff of nightmares and a lot of people thought Labour’s stance on the issue was…odd, to put it kindly.

Anyway in other news the Mail and Telegraph now have “names and a birth certificate” apparently 🤣

On one level I think politicians private lives and especially their children should be off limits. But Labour made Johnson’s private life such a huge issue and leftie influencers online never shut up about it. I’ve had a look at Rayners tweets from 2020 - 2021 and also some lefty influencers and they are RIPPING into Johnson for his philandering, in fact some influencers even went so far as to mock the appearance of Jacob Rees Mogg kids which is grim and vile as far as I’m concerned. So if they thought Tories private life was fair game, then y not Kier tho? 🤣

In any case I’m finding it all dreadfully amusing, is it big is it important? Nah. But is IS funny as duck. I love the smell of exposed hypocrisy in the morning 😊😊😊

While you’re all happily discussing a super injunction that is almost certainly not true, perhaps you could turn some attention to a super injunction that actually exists and seems to be air tight - namely the one about Charlotte Owen, who the duck she is, her relationship to Boris Johnson and the reason that at the age of 29 she was elevated to the Lords and is now known as Baroness Owen of Alderney Edge.

I agree we should absolutely scrutinise people who get elevated to the Lords for no apparent good reason.

Google Dale Vince the Labour donor. Also Baroness Uddin.

There's about 650 criminals in a big building in London, maybe start there!

LOL you're so right. They are ALL on the take.

I've never forgiven Labour MP Pat McFadden for allegedly fiddling expenses by renting out the house next door to his and pretending it was his main residence, netted him £40k per year apparently. allegedly.

Or Angela Rayner for pretending her and her husband lived in separate houses so they could both claim, allegedly. Or Baroness Uddin for fraudulently claiming expenses pretending she was living in one of her houses in Kent when she was actually living in the other one in London, allegedly.

With a housing crisis it's just such a bad look?

But anyway if I stop to think about it seriously I get cross so let's keep it light on tattle. I couldn't believe what I read this morning, that Lord Alli spent £2400 on FreeGear Kier's specs.

£2,400 for a pair of glasses???? Mine cost less than £40 from specsavers. I had no idea that a pair of glasses COULD be worth 2 n a half grand, for that price I would expect to be able to see into people's souls with them!!

I don’t need to google thanks, I know exactly who they are.
Any thoughts on “Lord” Lebedev?

Not right now, although I did quite like what he did with the Standard and that appeal for the Dispossessed of London.

I defo think there's more to go with Lord Alli. He was barely in his 30s when he was elevated to the Lords, and he doesn't seem to take his position that seriously - apparently he's only taken an active part in 12 debates over the past decade? I think that's a bit lazy tbh. Mind you, probably not much time to get involved in the workings of democracy when you're busy doing the trolley dash in Boots Opticians :ROFLMAO:

ETA to say I do have another thought on Lebedev - his beard is DISGUSTING. Honestly it makes him look like a little Lego man, gives me the serious creeps  :ROFLMAO:

If you think the creepiest thing about Lebedev is his beard you really do need to Google.

I do agree that someone in their 30s being elevated to the Lords is probably too young, unless the circumstances and the person are exceptional, and donating shed loads of money to the party in power shouldn’t count.
Which does rather nicely bring us back to the still unanswered question of Charlotte Owen.
Her parliamentary page is empty—no listed experience, no voting record, no questions, no speeches, no interests to register. For this she receives £332 per day ( plus travel expenses ) every times she attends the Lords. For the rest of her life.

Not to mention that nice fat cheque for doing bugger all!

(Son's father-in-law is one of them. He's (on the surface) an amiable hole. Scratch that surface, however . . . )

Mr Renegade heard the rumour today at work re the super injunction and alleged love child. The person he heard it from was one that told him about Liam Gallaghers love child in America before that story broke. Could be hearsay but no smoke without fire and all that. The fallout if it’s true would be interesting.
Dan Wooton has gone all in on this. Daily podcasts and the works.

Are we playing a game of 'your Lord is less corrupt than my Lord'? Because I don't want to play that: they are ALL as bad as each other and they are ALL on the take. Believe me. That partisan shite is just a way to keep us plebs divided - we're much more of a threat if we realise that ALL politicians are the same and the whole structure is rotten. Much easier to keep us squabbling over whether red is worse or better than blue etc etc.

Corbyn understood this...which is why the powers that be hated him.

On the question of Charlotte Owens...hmmm, you've accidentally (or on purpose?) put your finger on rather a ....delicate issue. And not just for Boris. You're on the right track...for more than one politician, of more than one political persausion. Keep investigating....

Jesus, patronising much? Keep investigating? 🙄
Firstly, it’s Charlotte Owen, not Owens. And I don’t need lessons on Corbyn, he’s my MP.
Of course most of the members of the HoL are there for the perks. If handing over money to the party in power is the way to enter the Lords then it’s inevitably going to attract the “wrong” people. Michelle Mone, Ian Botham, Jeffrey Jailbird Archer, Chris Grayling? Nobody seriously thinks they’re there to help society and improve things for us plebs.
To be fair are a few good ones though, who do work incredibly hard and can almost certainly justify their position, but they’re always going to be vastly outnumbered by the corrupt, the lazy and the perennially useless.

I still can't get my head around the fact these are educated people, they stand on their soap box giving out about other mp's being corrupt yet they have their nose in the trough as well. I mean it's not rocket science. They know it all comes out in the wash but they can't help themselves. Got to love a hypocrite.

Bare with me, this is a long one. But it's informative .. so says I. 😬

I think you just have to wake up to the fact that the political class of this country has hit rock bottom. To me it's just a reflection of an empire (for want of a better word) in decline. Talent is moving East. It's enevitable. Personally I think this is what all the 'wars' or 'conflicts' are about, just a ruse to deflect from the fact that Western society is in massive decline.

China rules the world right now you just don't know it, but they do. They keep their cards close to their chest. Take for example the 'war' in Ukraine. That conflict could be solved tomorrow. Xi Jinping, the leader of China, could call a peace conference between Ukraine and Russia and broker a peace deal. The only person Putin listens to is Xi, China is Russia's biggest importer (primarily of wheat).

Think of the optics though, Xi, Putin and Zelenskyy around a table signing a peace accord. It would announce to the world that China is in fact the global super power. The United States doesn't want that. Much like the trouble in the Middle East. The West doesn't want peace, war is good for business.

I know we take the piss out of Starmer and Lammy, but they really are irrelevant puppets in a globsl clown show. The media are in on it too. It's all just a charade. The US and China run the show and we are just meat.

Ah come on there's no need to get all ad hominem, this is tattle not mumsnet :ROFLMAO:

I said 'keep investigating' cos I'm trying to keep it vague about the ALLEGED parallels between Boris + Charlotte and two other people talked about on this thread....because I know how much Kier loves to bang people up in prison for reposting scuttlebut (after releasing a few rapists early of course)

Let's be honest this whole thing is funny as duck. It's funny because as I said, in 2020/2021, Labour were going IN heavy on Boris for his behaviour...all while some of them were doing EXACTLY THE SAME THING! I mean did they not think, hang on, better ease off here, I'll be in power soon and I don't want to give the media a reason to come at me in the same way?

Pisspoor forward planning there :ROFLMAO:

Tough message there but I do agree. That's why I enjoy laughing at it. It's a slightly diverting sitcom on the long hard road of managed decline.
