This whole post is spot on!!! Thank you for sharing this - so much better than I could have done! My mum has never been overly ‘feminine’ - loves football, always has done, only seen her wear a dress/ skirt a handle of times, and when she was a young girl she loved being out and playing with her male cousins… now as you say probably would have been labelled and pigeon holed rather than just being who she wants to be! Anyway don’t want to detail the thread !!

A relative of mine is a the same, and she identifies as a woman and is a lesbian. But she herself said that she worries that if she was 16 now she would have been quite confused potentially thinking she was trans.

I think it would have been better if the show had started with Miranda being an established lecturer/professor, seeing her speak about corporate law to her students and then having her make friends with her female collegue, and having a storyline with that rather than Che. Weather they had an affair or just a flirty friendship that awakened her to the problems with her and Steve etc…
This makes a lot more sense and it's quite common for former corporate lawyers to do part-time lecturing or something else that involves using their experience once they've retired (I work for a corporate law firm and the partners usually end up on boards/management committees of charities, etc.). It's kind of stupid to have Miranda, with all her legal experience, bumbling around like an idiot – her character was never like that!

It's so frustrating that loads of people here have suggested miles better storylines. What were the writers thinking??

Having her based in a Uni just opens up so many character possibilities as well. Che could have been a student, they all still could have attended the comedy night and Miranda flirts with a new colleague rather than Che but Charlotte still gets to hear about the non binary for Rose.

Or they could have had Miranda as the old school feminist, standing up properly for women and girls,
questioning the whole philosophy. She would be well versed in the language of wokery, well-read on the subject of trans and non-binary, thinking about it all deeply, seeing it from different sides, and determined to properly centre women. What a brilliant tension that would be in the Rose storyline.

That’s my fantasy. Way too controversial, I’m afraid.

I wish any mainstream tv show would have this as a storyline

The only person in the show talking any sense is now Anthony.

Charlotte is such an irritating character, she's gotten gradually more irritating since the start of the original series. I think she means well but gosh she would be so draining to have as a friend. Also what have they done with Miranda?! She was an intelligent and interesting woman but since the 2nd film it's like they are forcing her to be more perky and ditzy. Carrie is the only one that actually seems realistic to the old episodes, but I agree that she seems to be handling Big's death too well, especially compared to her reaction when he left her at the altar. I do miss Samantha, mostly because KC had such a presence, but agree that I'm not sure if they could have done much with her character and would have had disastrous storylines for her.

I really like that they have made the show more diverse and I can see characters that aren't featured as much and are different to me, but the writing is so bad that it's not landing well. The Che scenes make me cringe so much which is a shame as I think they could have done something interesting with that character, especially as Sara Ramirez is very talented and was fab in Grey's Anatomy.

To stop the bickering over where Carrie lived.

At this point I am glad Sam is not back, god knows what they would have done to her character

Just watching the 3rd ep now…they’re at Che’s Netflix thing…the crowd are clicking instead of clapping which I assume is to not overload the senses of neurodivergent people but I may be wrong…but if that’s why they’re doing it shouldn’t they not be cheering either? Surely that’s worse than clapping for sensory overload??
American centrists liberals seem to talk about sensory overload a lot, it's almost as if it's easier to focus on than accessibility issues that require money and structural change.

I liked Bernadines Evaristo's treatment of this in Girl, Woman, Other. A lot of different perspectives without anything being demonized. Not sure if you'd see that in a tv show though.

Well I was on the fence with episodes 1 and 2 but I’ve just watched episode 3 and WTF??

Another Samantha comment “we couldn’t go anywhere Carrie had been with Big or Samantha!” Why? Was Carrie so traumatised by “mean girl” Samantha? or was it another dig aimed at Kim?
And then the running away when spotted by Natasha. FFS they all need to grow up!

Nothing to add on all the “woke” stuff. 🙄

Also, since SATC I don’t know why (possibly his mouth) but Steve has always reminded me of Peter Stringfellow!😆

I took it as that she probably never really knew him.

I took it the other way - that despite everything, he still didn't fully open up to her. So what other secrets was he keeping?

Why was Natasha turning down the million dollars?? - she has two boys, but it in a savings account for them if she doesn’t want it herself!!
And they are so blasé about a million dollars! How the hell much money did Carrie get?!?

To be fair if my ex left me a million dollars (unlikely) my first instinct would be bonfire.

They do this in the fx series Pose (which I loved) I think it’s an LGBTQ+ community thing (“snaps”) which has somewhat transferred into the mainstream!

Thought this was because clapping could cause distress to someone with ptsd - common in unis as there are so many students with ptsd apparently

Re tje tom boy label vs non binary..l guess l have a daughter who would have been labelled a tom boy had l let that happen. My mother says she's not a girly girl and this is one of the many reasons we barely have contact. As far as l can see tom boys are girls that don't conform to a stereotypical girl and that tit can duck off as far as l'm concerned. She can be whatever she wants and still be a girl.

When Carrie found the photo of the dog in his wallet, did she try the name and year as the password on his computer?

How can she not know the password?! We have all our passwords for everything wrote down along with details of banks, pensions, savings etc so if one of us dies, the other doesnt have to think too much about things to get the ball rolling. Also includes mobile phones and work phones and anything house related that the other one takes care of. It's kept with a copy of ours Wills at the Solicitors and we update it when needed.
