What’s with all this sudden bigotry in the premier league? Players refusing to wear rainbow arm bands. It’s like going back in time.

In this case it isn’t an armband but an ugly AF rainbow warm up jacket (unless there’s been another story about armbands that I’ve missed).

I don’t think political lobbying needs to be in football, especially since Pride month seems to last most of the year.

I think footballers should take more of a stand when it comes to being expected to make empty virtue signalling gestures all the time.

There is a story about a rainbow armband but as far as I know only 1 captain out of all the Premier League captains refused to wear it because of their religious beliefs

The rainbow armband story.

One captain writes "Jesus Loves you" on his armband and is penalised.

Another - a Muslim - refuses to wear it at all and nothing is done. Why the different response to what is a similar action?

Pointing out it's a political message and also associated with Stonewall which is becoming discredited - should there be just a blanket ban on political displays. They aren't even going to try wearing them in Qatar because they know what the response would be etc

None of this should be forced. It's like the kneeling thing from a few years back.

Virtue signalling. More of them should refuse to wear them. And I say this as a monitory myself. I've seen so much virtue signalling not just sport but my career too.
Quite.

As things stand, wearing one is a political stance forced upon most of them.

Refusing to wear one also becomes a political stance.

Get rid of them, and nobody can send any political message

Sounds like those "shitbag" parents made the hardest decision of their lives by not contesting the adoption, so that their baby could enter its new family and starts it's new life as quickly as possible. They could have dragged that out for many months, just to be able to see their baby every week, while the case was going on. Instead, it sounds like they put their baby first. Never underestimate the trauma of that decision and the huge sacrifice that parent is making for their child. They don't sound like "shitbags" to me. They sound like parents who made a selfless decision and put their kid first so that their child could have the happy and stable life that they couldn't provide.
They’re well known in the area for being “shitbags.” I wouldn’t use the term lightly otherwise. Someone who has six kids due to drugs and them all being taken away does not sound like the type of home a child should be dragged back to just because the court sees it as their “right.” Sorry I just feel strongly that, once is a mistake but six times? And how does seeing siblings all over the country once a year make you close? I just dont see how this helps anybody - baby, new family and old family. It doesn’t help anybody to move on. I just feel it’s incredibly sad for all parties.

Gestures like rainbow laces and armbands are completely meaningless if they are coerced.

Enjoying the Gwynnie trash talk. I'm sure there were Russian girls at that ball with her daughter, and they would have all known that the word for "apple" in Russian is a slang term for "bollock" as well.

I don't think there should be anything remotely political when it comes to football. No kneeling, no poppies, no rainbows ... nothing.

The teams (and fans) are made up of people from across the globe all with differing political or religious beliefs. It is bound to cause conflict.

You wouldn't make a whole team wear crosses around their neck because 1 person in the team is a Christian, likewise you wouldn't make everyone wear vegan football boots because a few of the team are vegan.

I agree that anything remotely political should be kept out of it as it takes the focus away from the sport itself and just drives up negativity, why aren't they wearing xxx etc.

Like CarmenGhia said above, if you're made wear something even when you don't want to, it's meaningless isn't it? Do you need a showy display to show you support a cause?
