Definitely more of an after trip. A 15 year old is a still a 15 year old. She shouldn't be surprised when she was asked what kind of safeguards she had put in place, it sounds like a reasonable thing to be asked. Her incredulousness makes me doubt she had really thought it true at all.
When I was 15 a friend and I went to work in a hotel a long way away. My friend’s father checked it out. My mother showed no interest at all, I doubt she even knew where it was.
When I was 16 I went hitchhiking in Europe with a boyfriend. Again, my mother had no idea where I was going or even when I would be back.

At 16, after working at the age of 15 in a hotel.
There is a difference there.

I don’t see the issue, I know british children are particularly coddled, but I would be fairly embarassed if someone had left school but was incapable of going on what is a very easy holiday in europe.

Have to admit, I agree. You don’t suddenly mature at the stroke of midnight in your sixteenth birthday so I’d assume Kirsty was pretty confident in the lads maturity and ability to allow it.
My lad would have done this at the same age, he’d very much got his head screwed on.
My daughter on the other hand couldn’t have worked out what bus to catch to get to the station.

I get that SS have to check out these reports, but when there are so many failings in the system and not enough social workers to keep up I can’t help but feel it’s a colossal waste of resources.

And yes, whoever said about living life through social media, absolutely that.

I always wondered why Slipknot wore those stupid masks.. now I know why

Kids seem to mature much later these days, and Im not sure if it’s a good thing. They also can’t do anything for themselves. I was going to pubs and clubs at sixteen, it would probably be unthinkable now. I was out of school about a week when I found my first job in a hotel. I walked in and asked on reception. Once again unthinkable now. You only have to look at Facebook to see the number of parents asking for jobs on behalf of their teenage kids, as an employer that would put me right off. However if the kid asked themselves I’d be more inclined to give them a chance. I also remember a mum on local FB who’s seventeen year old son had found a job in a factory and was looking for someone who could give him a lift to and from work every week day, lots of people posted bus routes and times he could get but she was adamant she needed someone to pick him up and give him a lift home, she was happy to pay petrol costs 🙄 Getting a bus is a life skill ffs! Not just that but who wants to get into a routine of giving a teen who doesn’t drive and so can’t return the favour a lift every single day? What if they are off sick or on holiday or change shifts etc? Breath taking entitlement and Molly coddling.

I temped in offices in the local ‘big town’ the summer after secondary and the money I earnt paid for my holiday with my school friend in the August. I was one of the older girls in the school year, she was one of the younger. We had an absolute blast. I also flew solo to Italy at 16 and stayed with a family that worked for the same company as my mum but in Milan, that none of us had ever met before.

However, that was a long time ago (very early 90s) and I don’t think I’d have been comfortable with any of my children doing either of those things.

I also immensely dislike Kirstie Allsopp

I’m conflicted on this 🤣
