Sara Sharif case #2

Well well, buy Justice Cavanagh a drink, what a bloody fantastic result. I was pulled away mid sentencing yesterday & have just today caught up on YouTube.
It was pretty evident that he was appalled by the treatment of Sara (as are we all) & did not allow any of the 3 to pass blame or plead ignorance. They all contributed to her suffering 1 way or another.

I actually sobbed when he spoke of the hood, I just cannot believe caregivers could be so incredibly cruel.

Home schooling was a tragic turn for Sara. As strong willed as she was I so wished she'd reached out to someone.
I still think SS dropped the ball here on several occasions & that's on them to argue who, when or why but that needs to be addressed because children are dying!

I try to have sympathy for Olga. She may not have been a suitable parent to look after them solo full time due to being vulnerable herself but she was their mother. Instead of allowing the children safe contact so they could get the best she could manage, she lost the chance of seeing them at all by BB and US demonising her to the kids. If US had been a decent man in the first place he could have supported Olga and made up for any shortcomings. He only used her to get a passport and a son, she obviously had problems whether pre-existing or because he abused her. Olga and by extension Sara were just baggage to him.

I hope they do overhaul SS, including looking properly at whether reunification should always be the main goal over and above anything else including the child’s safety. This is the second case in a fairly short period where the child has been in the care system and then returned to their parent which has resulted in their death. Reunification is important but it’s not always realistic and it shouldn’t be the end goal when the evidence before them is clear the parents are abusive.

I do have sympathy for Olga, but realistically her being abusive did “help” US get custody of Sara (though the biggest blame for that is on SS/the judge) and also likely contributed to Sara not having another parent to turn to for help when the abuse she was experiencing escalated. If she hadn’t been abusive, it’s far more likely she’d have been able to keep in contact with Sara and that alone could have meant this ended differently. She’s not responsible for US and BB’s actions but she’s responsible for her own - including moving back to Poland away from her children, knowing they were with a man who had abused them previously.

I thought that she's only moved back to Poland following Sara's death

Lucrative baggage - tax credits, child benefit, housing benefit, universal credit etc! US and BB and FM are all monsters. What happened to Sara is worse than I could possibly have imagined. On another note, they lived in local authority housing, how was FM allowed to live at the 3 bedroomed property which already housed 6 children (2 with additional needs) and 2 adults. It was already a pressure cooker situation due to the overcrowding.

Do we know for sure Olga abused Sara?
Because it seems to me that US was very persuasive when dealing with authorities. Always allowed to walk a away because his accusers were ‘lying’. Could this have been another lie and she couldn’t defend herself due to trauma of being abused by him and also her learning difficulties?

We'll never know now. I'd imagine Olga would take her chance and deny it completely, thinking everyone would believe her because of what he's done and she also wouldn't want to be associated with any abuse of Sara now, moreso because of what she went through. I don't know whether the older boy would remember or if he would remember the truth because he will have been brainwashed by US that Olga did hurt them. Me personally, I think she did hit them, I don't think she'll have had the tools to deal with them in any other way and she will have been extremely stressed when US was around so would likely have a very short temper with the children. Was she cruel to them, ie cigarette burns or hitting them with implements, scalding them or burning them with an iron, I think not.

The oldest boy that reportedly isn’t US’s (not Sara’s older brother who lived with her with US during the torture, the reports specify two older siblings) also seems to have testified she abused them over the course of the SS involvement with the family and appears to have chosen to stay in care rather than seek reunification with his mum even after she split with US per the reporting, which speaks volumes.

Do I think she was anywhere near as bad as US and BB? No, of course not, but that doesn’t mean she’s blameless for her role.

Well the truth is we don’t know whether Olga abused the children or not. We know what has been said, but we know little else. We also know what sort of a man US was. Olga may well have also been abusive, we don’t know her upbringing, her personality. There’s often no smoke without fire. But we also know US is manipulative, abusive, co-ercive and a liar. Who knows what happened 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t know about anyone else but I have always found that the truth is often in the middle!

There was a report in the Times I think yesterday, which said that whilst Olga and the children were in the refuge after she left US, Olga was witnessed hitting Sara so hard that 'she flew across the room'. Sara and the other children were also taken into care briefly whilst Olga was still with US when one of the children, (I believe it was Olga's son from a previous relationship and was ultimately taken permanently into care) said that he had been assaulted by US and bitten very hard by Olga. She received a caution for biting that child.

Whilst Olga denies most of the claims made by US in relation to Sara, which led to Sara and her brother moving back to US and BB, she admitted that she spanked her once. I also read a report at some point where it was said that Olga admitted that she had difficulties with Sara. That's why I have said previously that whilst Olga may not have been as bad as she was portrayed in the last custody court case -US may well have exaggerated the claims against her - I don't think she was a safe person to look after Sara and her brother either. The children really would have been better off in care.

The fact that her older son who was not US’s went into care really underlines that she couldn’t care for the kids. Sara seemed lively and spirited, I don’t think you could plonk her in front of the tv for a quiet life.
