I don’t know which has made me feel more 🤢 this morning. That pile of slop or that manky nail hanging on by a thread!

Bircher muesli should never be sweet, so I can’t imagine what recipes she’s been using before. She’s probably oiled honey, nap,e syrup or sugar in hers.It originated in Switzerland by a Swiss doctor, Dr. Bircher Benner, who devised it for patients in a sanitarium. It’s basically grated apple into uncooked oat flakes. Add nuts, I like hazelnuts, fresh fruit, or dried, fresh lemon juice and plain yogurt or milk - originally it was sweetened condensed tinned milk that was used over fears of TB from fresh milk at the time. The lemon juice was to counteract the sweetness of the condensed milk, so uts not necessary anymore. You can also soak the oats in apple juice. Very easy to veganize this.

WTH has she done to that Somerset House picture 😳 It’s so badly edited, I’m surprised she posted something like that in her heavily cultivated feed!

I did some more research, it was originally evaporated milk used, notncondensed sweetened milk. The translation was incorrect when done at the time. But you can use water to soak the oats too. I’ve soaked oats in water when making porridge with jumbo oats. It takes less time that way. One main point with making your own Bircher is that you are avoiding sweetened store bought muesli. You can also add frozen berries to this, or in the summer, fresh. Blueberries are lovely. If you like seeds, then add them. The lemon juice stops the grated apple from going brown. I also add lemon juice and peel when I do homemade apple sauce.

We put our tree up yesterday - chuckling imagining the faces of my bemused family as if I had hauled an old sledge from the garage and plonked some manky ice skates into the middle of the sitting room ! ITS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOUR !

So true! If I came home with some beat up old skates and hung them over the door for 6 weeks, my partner would be like WTF, have you lost your mind?!

I looked up the Deliciously Ella Recipe and it uses dried apple rings. So, for people too lazy to grate an apple, or even too lazy use a food processor to chop one. She also suggests adding nut butter as a topping. So many bloggers jumping on the Bircher bandwagon when they haven’t got a clue.

I swear her feet must be a size 10. That Somerset house photo.. I don't know what they've done to it but the pair of them have flippers!

My husband wouldn't be surprised if I did.. 😶
That being said, I wouldn't cart a whole sledge

She’s not 5’9. I’ve met her 🤷🏼‍♀️
*pulls up a chair and crosses legs"
So... Tell me more? 😂

I can also confirm she is much more like 5'6!
This thread is full of people who have actually met her? This is excellent, you can provide the fleshing out. I once found out I'd spent the whole day at the same National Trust property as her and managed (thankfully) to miss her at every stage.I mean she may be super lovely irl, but her petulant behaviour would suggest not.

I used to live in the same village. Last weekend was the annual Christmas lights switch on. The road is closed, all the local shops are open and have stalls in the street, loads for kids, Santa rides through on a sleigh, great atmosphere. I was surprised she didn't make an appearance for Freya's first Xmas but would rather traipse to London to see santa and take a photo at the F&M tree rather than support local business in her 'beloved' (supposedly) village. It's a very social occasion where you are likely to see lots of people you know which makes me think maybe she doesnt have any local friends other than mumma.
