I think the insta community glorifies this stupidity. If you weren’t sharing your running you wouldn’t care, but if you’ve got a following and go, tit I can’t run a BQ, or a sub 3, or a sub 40 10k or whatever… what do I do to make the muggles who follow me think I’m impressive…
RUN AN ULTRA! It doesn’t need to be quick because it is such a long way the muggles who only have time to do 5k twice a week will worship me!
It’s bizarre.
Get off the internet and enjoy your life

A takeover?! I’m sure it was a sell out with thousands of runners, but sure your small group of morons took it over 🤦🏽‍♀️

No, no. It was a nice gentle 55k race with over 3,800m of elevation around Corrmayeur. A great idea just four weeks after Comrades, which he DNS'd.
I used to give Ben Parkes the benefit of the doubt as he seemed to be a nice enough guy, struggled with his mental health at times like a lot of people do and was just very enthusiastic about running. I also liked that he always paid for the trainers he reviewed so he can be honest. But recently he's lost all credibility really. Making big announcements about races then handily picking up injuries before a race so he DNS but then is running quite far and fast a couple of days later. I think his girlfriend Sarah is a lot more relatable.

You must have been reading my mind because I think exactly the same. When I first seriously got into running he was the first running YouTuber I used to watch. And same as you, liked the fact that he pays for the shoes he reviews and seemed enthusiastic.

I think it was UTMB that did it for me, I’m not sure he ever would have completed that race and felt that he totally ruined the experience for Sarah, who almost certainly finished it. He does run way too much and way too fast, and agree that Sarah trains much more sensibly and that’s reflected in the fact that she actually finishes the races she enters

And now chicago marathon in 13 weeks! He needs to calm down

Every time he’s injured he stops running and then boom, next thing, 50 mile weeks! It’s crazy. I used to have respect for him, but he seriously needs to take a step back.
Sarah however, seriously good runner! Must be frustrating for her to see him do this to himself when her training seems quite sensible!

She definitely would’ve finished UTMB. Considering her performance in other races this year. She’s just qualified for TDG next year!

because she’s a distance runner.

he’s a content runner, chasing the next thing to talk about.

why do none of these people realise that there would be a big audience for things like “how to pull back from over training”, what to do whilst recovering, how to build up from scratch/injury etc. always chasing the next race is unrealistic

Looking back through her training recently, she doesn’t do crazy miles or stupid paces either. Yes she did Comrades recently so will have been distance-trained, but she does her easy runs actually easy.

He does all his easy runs in the low 7 min/miles. I know it’s all relative but there are people in my running club who are faster than him and they don’t do their easy runs as fast as he does. Or anywhere near as many miles

Nor does he pull back when injured (or post DNF'ing).
Makes sure to comment how hot it is (100f) but still 4:34/km..... SLOW DOWN

I recently got the forerunner 265s and I bloody love it! It was way more than I’d pay usually but I really like how it has smart watch features too. Not sure if it’s on the prime deals tho
