Rosie Jones Comedian

Add me to the "and I thought it was just me who thought she was tit" list!

From her appearances on Mock The Week it would seem that her entire act consists of calling people names reeeeaaaallllllyyyyy slowly. Typical Rosie Jones gag;

"Iiiiiiiiii..........thinnnnnnk........Booooo........Rissssss.......Johnnnnnn...........Sonnnnnn..........isssss........aaaaaaa.............twaaaaat!"

And then she giggles like a baby who's proud that it's just done its first poo on its potty while the rest of the panel applaud, not because she's funny, but because they're relieved she's finally made it to the end of her sentence.

Yes it's great that she's managed to achieve something despite (or maybe because of) her disability, but live comedy is all about being quick witted and spontaneous and sadly Rosie Jones is neither of these things.

Exactly, first of all her jokes aren't funny. But comedy is not even just about jokes, it's timing

And that’s the trouble with today’s society.

Well I can understand Rosie Jones but she's just too 'try-hard' and I think she does probably care that some people don't like her humour because she wouldn't be on about it.

My aunt talks fondly about a similarly- if perhaps more profoundly disabled-woman who attends her church who is into 'performing'. My aunt admires her because of her chutzpah and willingness to get involved with things. This woman does have a very 'busy' lifestyle and is involved in all kinds of activities. I admit to being almost equally envious and admiring of her zest for life and refusal to stay at home, pondering life from her wheelchair. On the other hand, my aunt is often saying things like 'X wants us to go to this' or 'X expects...' and I get the impression that 'X' is a bit of a PITA* and somewhat manipulative. I could be completely wrong, having never met her, but somehow I don't think I'd be that eager to, either. I'd probably find her exhausting but, fair play, she's probably doing more with her life than I am. I think I'd find Rosie Jones' company a bit exhausting, too.

Ah, well, it's good to be able to be able to release my inner witch here on good old Tattle!!!

I feel a bit uncomfortable with the fact that even though she is disabled herself, her jokes are quite discriminatory.
I didn't watch her documentary 'I am not a r*tard' so don't know what was said, but I gather from Twitterx she upset a lot of the Learning Disabled community with that title alone. I presume by her insistance she doesn't have a LD as that would be a terrible insult.

I don’t like her and I don’t find her funny but she was clearly reclaiming that slur by using that title. Like not all black people agree with using the n word in rap music etc but it’s down to personal choice and limits. Clearly she wasn’t using that word to be offensive but to make an impact on how people see ableism.

Ah interesting. As I said I didn't watch it but I see using that word did upset a lot of people.
I guess there is a very fine line between reclaiming a word and normalising it.

I thought she was quite good when she cameoed in Casualty. But apart from that she isn’t funny.

That said, I don’t find any female comics funny. All they seem to joke about is their weight, men and chocolate.
She was good in casualty because that worked. She was playing a disabled parent and highlighting the issues with that, so it worked.

Half of being a successful comedian is the timing, and it’s not ableist to say she hasn’t got that, it just doesn’t work.

I don't find her in the slightest bit funny, and can't watch her in anything. I think the reason she's on so many panel shows is because, in the past, she's written for Would I Lie To You, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, The Last Leg, and Harry Hill's Alien Fun Capsule; she's also co-written an episode of Bad Education.

Yes I agree - I did like her in Casualty and the storyline she had was a good one. Had forgotten about that. Re female comics, my partner and I did like Amy Schumer but she seems to have gone a bit political now, and now that's she's married with a child, she can't do routines about dating and having sex so I'd imagine that might take away some of her edge. I like Emma Doran from here in Ireland as well. There was another comic on the other night that made us laugh heartily but I can't remember who it was unfortunately. The other ones, I can take or leave. They'd raise a smile for us but not a belly laugh. There is one that my partner and I used to call "Foghorn" because of her voice, and that is Zoe Lyons. If I wanted to wind my partner up I'd say "Oh look, your favourite is going to be on this show, Foghorn!" and then listen to him swear at the thought of it 🤣
