She posted it with her comments. You’re missing my point entirely, she does not need to educate or inform or give her opinion on it. No one asked and no one goes to her for political analysis in the near east. Why she feels obliged to is a mystery. She should have said absolutely nothing as she even said she should! Her comments in Irelands’ history on this were particularly egregious.

And she only posted the 'explainer' after you rightfully called her out on her wishy washy take here

There are geopolitical experts who aren't writing blog posts about the best place to buy curly girl products in Fort Wayne and money diaries of takeaways so why is Rosemary muscling into something she admits she is not fully aware of? She like other blue ticks should stay in her lane. If it was about 'activism' there's charities she could link to like Dr Shereene Idriss did.

Maybe you’re not seeing it on your feed, but I follow multiple Palestinians, both displaced and in Gaza, and they are all asking for everyone to share what’s happening. You don’t need a degree in politics to know that what’s happening isn’t right.Excluding people from activism, digital or otherwise, because they’re “American housewives” isn’t fair or correct. Everyone has the ability to do their own research. I don’t remember anyone criticising her for sharing posts about Ukraine/Russia.
Honestly the fact that you seem to be giving such weight to social media on something this serious is concerning in itself.
Also the Russia/Ukraine conflict is not comparable. The aggressor is clear and it’s not complicated by issues of race and religion for a start.
Also, sharing things on Instagram is not activism, it’s performative virtue signalling (a favourite hobby of Rosemary’s).

digital activism is a relevant form of activism, if you can get to marches/protests like I have been then that’s great but if you can share a link or informative post that someone otherwise might not see that’s at least some help. Palestinians themselves are asking people to keep sharing because MSM aren’t reporting what’s happening in Gaza. I get that some social issues can attract performatism but if the people being bombed are asking people in others countries to share and post, then it’s not performative. If one person donated based on rosemarys story then that’s a bit more money going to help people who need it.

Where to begin?
1. The nature of the issue is not what makes a post performative or not, it’s the intentions of the person posting. Some people love the sound of their own voice, and that applies digitally too.
2. The term MSM is such a red flag for me. The media are absolutely covering what’s happening in Gaza. The BBC have a correspondent living in Gaza, literally reporting on his own family’s experience. They are also doing a lot of very valuable fact checking on BBC Verify. Now no single organisation is perfect, but I’d rather get my news from journalists who put their reputations on the line than clips from ransoms on the internet.
3. Much of what’s floating around on social media is wrong, misleading and designed to insight people and double down their prejudices - this is true on both sides. There have been examples of people sharing clips from other conflicts claiming it’s from Gaza. I saw one yesterday of Richard Boyd Barrett speaking in the dail claiming it was Irelands Prime Minister speaking on behalf our our entire country. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not the worst, but it’s a clear example of how truth is often the first casualty of war. Theres simply to verification, and no consequences for those who are deliberately spreading misinformation.
It only serves to polarise opinions and make things worse. A few huns sharing links to UNICEF doesn’t counteract all the harm that social media does. Also, as many posters have already said, Rosemary could simply have posted the charity link without her ill informed commentary.

1) how are any of us to know someone’s intentions in sharing something? I think we have to assume most people do it in good faith.
2) the MSM have been heavily criticised for their coverage on this in particular, the BBCs language when talking about Israeli deaths V Palestinians has been shameful (ie saying Israel’s were killed where Palestinians have “died”, asking every Palestinian spokesperson they interview to condemn the Hamas attack on Oct 7th but they don’t ask Israeli spokespeople to condemn the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza that’s happened every day since, and that happened long before October 7th). When the reporting has been so biased it’s important for people to listen to people on the ground.
3) yes there is misinformation on both sides but the misinformation on the Israeli side has led to widespread support for military aid to be sent to Israel, someone incorrectly labelling an Irish politician won’t have nearly the same disastrous effects. I agree that there’s no consequence for spreading false information, but rosemary, who we’re discussing on this thread, hasn’t shared any false information that I have seen.

Bea will be back soon to tell Rosemary the news of which bakeries are open the old country. Google won’t tell her for some reason. She will finally release the much anticipated interview with Brendin and she will spontaneously tell us all to f@ck off if we don’t support trans rights. She will flop her lid when she hears about the mint Terrys. Finally, she will give a detailed opinion of Britneys’ book, despite never having read it.

She has posted about 100% of her subscriptions will be going to charity now. What a coincidence

Don't worry, I'm sure there'll be another think piece soon on how the phrase good morning is misogynistic or something
Just to clarify, it’s only her NEW subscribers for this month.
Sure, it’s a fundraiser and I wouldn’t expect anyone to donate all their income to a charity, but let’s be real, it’s also a way for her to sign up some new subscribers in the hopes that they will continue to subscribe in the following months, and that money is for her to keep.

definitely agree that peoples money would be better going directly to charity, surely everyone who enjoys her writing enough to pay for it has already signed up?

TBF, I don't want to keep back and forth on this, I think we can respectfully disagree, without boring everyone else here and I've made my points, but.....

This is Rosemary we're talking about - I think I can safely say she loves attention. I honestly believe attention, interaction, validation, the need to be seen as relevant, etc is at the heart of pretty much everything she does.

Does anyone remember the "duck Terfs" incident? She lost all credibility with me for that one, and I no longer give her the benefit of the doubt on anything tbh.

Absolutely this 👆

Happy to leave it here, we’ve both made our points and as you’ve said it’s probably boring for others.

I like rosemary so I’m inclined to assume most of her posts are in good faith but that’s a pretty fair analysis if you’re someone who doesn’t like her/subscribe to her writing. I take issue with her sharing a pair of shoes she doesn’t even own and adding a hashtag affiliate link.

The Irish she/ her crew have all the exact same opinions, they all spout the same talking points and are barely distinguishable from one another. And laughably, Rosemary tries to tell us that they're the ones who can't say anything because of political correctness. Ha

She had a story up a few months ago basic gist of it was if you don’t agree that trans women ARE women then you’re a knuckle dragging moron and you can go duck yourself and unfollow her because as you know She likes to live in her own echo chamber, no free thinkers allowed! You can’t subscribe to wrong think!
I remember but it was totally out of nowhere. Maybe a pink t-shirt on a girl offended her. As soon as a man is described as a ‘person with a prostate’, then I’ll agree with her.

Thanks for answering, I did not know what happened

Like I said, that crew are all the same. Virtue signallers with their pre approved opinions supporting the current thing that's fashionable

We didn't have to wait too long for her to get offended over a word. 'Emasculated' is the latest offensive word
