I
Of course cervical check eligibility depends on living in Ireland or not.

She doesn't pay taxes here. I live abroad and I do all those visits abroad. She should be doing it in th US or paying for it in a Ireland.

In fairness I don't blame her doing them at home. I did a smear here in NYC and it cost me almost $1,500 and we all know Erica would prefer to spend that "investing" into another "good quality wardrobe staple that's soooo nice."

Dont you guys that live and work over there have insurance that will cover it?? I only ever paid for a smear once when I was travelling and it was 50euro. The rest of the times my insurance from my job covered it.
Same. When you live abroad, you don't come home to milk the system when you need to. Erica seems to be very good at that.

To be fair, I'd say the letter was sent anyway like I said but if she gets it done here... I will be disgusted. She doesn't live here anymore, places are needed for residents. No excuse.

It's cheaper because we pay taxes as a whole that go into the Healthcare system. She doesn't. So no she shouldn't.

But hasn't she lived away for years now, it's unlikely she'd get reminders... unless she's always done her check in Ireland. I've lived away from home from about the same age and do all my checks in the country I live in and never get reminders from home. But if there's a free way of doing things, guaranteed she'd take advantage of it. It's shameful...

I paid $300 for my smear in NYC

Sorry maybe I’ve opened a can of worms here and I was wrong - she did share herself checking but it wasn’t clear if it was an Irish system or a US system she was using.

I think the fact she is getting smears is a good thing.
You do realise there is a backlog in Ireland? Noone has said that, but if 100 people living in the US come home to do it, it could be the difference btw one person realising they have cancer quicker or not. Those days in relation to cancer are vital.

I will repeat.. If you live elsewhere, unless you pay privately, do not come home to milk the system.

I'm the same, I do almost everything where I live now bcos it's effective and convenient!!

I think it’s very unfair. I have major cell changes and I needed to have my scope done in the summer and it was cancelled 3 times. Absolutely agree that she appears so entitled and out of touch

Yeah the part of NYC is they live in is boring as duck I worked in a restaurant there for a bit years ago and remember thinking who the duck would want to live around here. Completely souless area. And NYC has so much soul. They are just terribly dull girls.

Love the new thread title, very to the point hahaha.
They are seaport district right? Its actually much more built up now. quieter than other parts of manhattan but not a deserted as it used to be

I had all my medical files sent to my obgyn when I moved to NYC and my insurance covered every smear and follow up. I never paid a cent. If she is doing these things at home my money is on her not having medical insurance. She can have a smear in Ireland but she should be paying for it

Same I don’t pay anything for mine, insurance covers it. I’ve had 4 different policies now and they all cover one exam a year for free so she must not have insurance? She would get a tax penalty for that..

also I’ve never been to an appointment in Ireland and I just got a reminder letter to home address 🤷🏻‍♀️

You must have registered at some point with cervical screening.

I didn't have insurance up until last year (self-employed) hence the cost of mine at the time. The visit itself was $300 but the lab fees were over $1,000. A lot depends what tests are ordered on the smear by the doctor but they don't tell you in advance so it can be a shock. If she has insurance though she should absolutely have gotten it done here. I'm just saying I understand why a lot of people wait until they go home who don't have insurance as I don't think anybody should be going into debt over their health if they can avoid it.

Is it not a requirement of the visa in the US that you buy health insurance?

You don't always have to register for cervical check, they just start sending you letters. They take the info from the register of electors or something like that.

Either way it just shows what a shithole the US is if someone who is well off over there comes back to Ireland for a smear test. Also just points to Erica's leech attitude.. Where is the 20k grant? 😂
