Such sad news about Parky but no surprise. We saw him in person in May 2022 at the Alexander Devine Hospice Charity Dinner - he was a patron of the charity. He turned up as a surprise and gave a very small speech but he was so frail and at one point it was thought he wasn't able to make it.
I think he had addiction issues, not sure if they carried on into his latter years.

To be fair they have lots of obituaries for certain well known people already written. I imagine the Queen’s had been pre-written for years with tweaks along the way

RIP Michael. You were an interviewing legend
They pre-write loads of them. I would imagine they have one for anyone who's death would be national news, plus a few more. It's probably not quite "every single famous person", but it won't be that far off.

The Reuters obituary for The Queen had several names attached to it, at least two of whom had died themselves in the years since they were involved in writing it.

I loved Parky and the way he made people feel comfortable during their interviews. He was genuinely interested in people, enjoyed having a laugh, and could also be serious. He was a true professional who has the best of the best on his show, and even "coped" with Emu and Miss Piggy.

Condolences to his family and close friends.

Michael Parkinson, I'm not really saddened by his death due to his age. He lived a good life, met great people, etc. 88 is a great age.
I will be saddened by David Attenborough's death when it comes, simply because he was the voice of nature documentaries.

RIP to the legendary TV presenter Michael Parkinson (Parky)

I wonder if he'll get to the gates of heaven and say, God allow me to introduce, Jamie Cullum.

Anyone remember any good stories from his Chat Show, think we all remember the car crash that was Meg Ryan.

The obvious one is his run in with Emu!

He didn't make Meg Ryan feel comfortable.

Yep, they have one at the ready for anyone who can be classed as famous or well-known and things are added every so often to keep them updated and ready to upload as soon as the news comes through. The BBC screwed up and posted the obit of the comedian Bill Bailey back in 2016. He talked about it on an episode of Graham Norton a few years ago, saying there was a DJ who died in the US who had the same name and they mixed them up.

There is actually a huge list of people who were prematurely offed over the years by the media.

Diana really caught them off guard, so every public figure has a regularly updated written and video package obituary ready to go since then.

People in their twilight years have been known to contact organisations to make sure they know of certain things like their charity work 😆

I think most news outlets have someone dedicated to track someone's life just in case. Even the British Royal family had to be filmed speaking QE and PP in the past tense even though both alive at the time of interview

I'd imagine they've done the same for Charles and Camilla, at least. And probably William and Kate even.
