Piers started his career in journalism by writing the first (and only?) unofficial autobiography on Phillip Schofield, when Phillip was in his tv prime it’s on record that Schofield hated it and tried to stop it.

I think Piers did try to get Schofield to colabarate with him so it was official but he was having none of that and then a few years later Piers is the editor of one of the biggest tabloids in the country 👀

I think Piers was Schofields OG Dan Wootton, Aka he had to cut deals with him to keep his name and reputation clean.

It’s been said long before all this that every news outlet on fleet street has a massive collection of files on Schofield, i can’t imagine that would be said if it wasn’t true as he’s such a random name to have so much dirt on otherwise.
