I read his book and I honestly expected that throughout it there would be hints at his struggles with his sexuality and mental health, but he portrayed his life as perfect right up to the last chapters, where it comes pretty much out of the blue. I just felt it was added almost as a postscript following what came out in the press. If he hadn't come out prior to the book being released, I don't think he would have mentioned it at all.
