I’m so sorry I didn’t even see this reply this thread was hidden for some reason He has a EHCP he got it back in July which states he needs 1-1 at all times which he doesn’t get and that he needs a SEN setting which hopefully he’ll get from September but we’ve been told not to get our hopes up as our whole city has next to no spaces availableAww I totally get it. My son was 3 in august, says lots of single words but not much in context. His understanding is very slim. Does he have an EHCP? Merry Xmas ❤ xx
Our S&L lady told us she doesn’t think he’s as ‘bad’ as a child with his genetic order should be because most his age wouldn’t even be babbling or saying words, since Christmas he’s actually said mum and nan which he hasn’t said since he regressed at one! It’s so frustrating knowing there is words there they just can’t get them outHey I’m sorry you’re feeling like this, it is so tough worrying about the future and all the unanswered questions you have.
Has your S&L therapist ever said if they think your little one will speak? As I don’t think health visitors are as knowledgeable in this area as much as actual S&L therapists.
What I will say is ‘professionals’ get things wrong all the time as they don’t know how your child’s brain will develop as everyone’s brain is so unique. That’s why they no longer use functioning levels, as so many who were told years ago that they would never do this and do that have actually done the opposite and surpassed all the expectations!
Oh no, do you have a backup plan?I’m so sorry I didn’t even see this reply this thread was hidden for some reason He has a EHCP he got it back in July which states he needs 1-1 at all times which he doesn’t get and that he needs a SEN setting which hopefully he’ll get from September but we’ve been told not to get our hopes up as our whole city has next to no spaces available

There’s actually a SEN provision at his mainstream school he’s at now that they’re pushing to get him in but it’s 8 children and the waiting list is miles long, he has his mainstream named by the LA as his school so I think if it comes to it it’ll be mainstream hopefully with a 1-1 5 days a week. It’s just a nightmare knowing that the longer they aren’t in the right setting the harder it’s going to be for them going forward!Oh no, do you have a backup plan?
luckily the school round the corner from us has a specialist provision within the mainstream so we are hopefully going to try him with that first. It’s just a massive headf**k trying to get the best for our kids!
I love reading stories like this. My child is 4 and a half and just not talking, so I’m feeling more and more desperate. Professionals have no idea if she will ever talk.Hi everyone, new here. Just reading through and wanted to say to everyone that has toddlers who aren't speaking, don't give up hope my boy has just turned 7 and didn't start using words till he was around 5, the last year or so he's started saying so much more.

My son was pretty much mute until 2.5. He’s now 3.5 and although he doesn’t say much in context, he can say lots of single words and name everything! I just wish his receptive language would improve but I’ve got everything crossed it will in time.
changing subject a little - my boy has his pre school jabs next week. Any idea how to handle that one? He’s gonna go mental and get so upset cos he doesn’t know what’s coming.
No he doesn’t really engage like that. But we will try with him. Thank you xDoes he respond to PECS or any pictures? You could try social stories which is a story made up of pictures so you could put pictures of what's going to happen to show him
Oh bless you, that’s a horrible situation to be in. We are also applying for our sons school, and waiting on an EHCP aswell. We were told just to apply as if he doesn’t have an EHCP, even though the EP report states he needs small group and 1:1 interaction.Really stressed tonight, tomorrow is the deadline to have school applications in and up to now we haven’t heard off a single SEN school or provision with spaces, 3 have told us their waiting list is too long and he’s ‘not bad enough’ even though his EHCP says he needs a SEN provision and a 1-1 at all times I’ve named his mainstream for a choice as that’s named as his school by the LA so hopefully if it comes to it he gets a place for reception there but I feel like the school just can’t be assed with him, he’s not even a bad behaved kid he just can’t really communicate and has limited understanding even though since being there since last January he has come on a lot and has the confidence to approach staff for help, the kids in there all love him and treat him just the same as every other kid Sorry for the rant it’s just so sad when you don’t know what’s going to happen with your child’s future!
Hello, I don't really know if this is the right place to post. My daughter just turned two and she doesn't walk. She bum shuffles everywhere. She can't stand independently but will cruise along the furniture, but this is only in our house where I assume she feels more secure.
She does speak and has good fine motor skills etc but I am so worried about the walking. I feel as though it's holding her back as she's not able to play with her peers because they'll just all run off and shes just left there. She also can't explore her own interests because she can't get to anything. I kind of have to guess what she wants and take her to it.
Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this and whether anyone can give me some hope thank you.
I don't have any experience in this and you haven't mentioned if she may be SEN. I have read about some SEN children taking longer to walk though. Also some dyspraxic children taking longer to walk due to difficulties in motor planning. Maybe hyper mobility?
Have you been referred to community peds/OT/Physio?
This should be your first step. Next, I'd look into dyspraxia and see what strategies there and see what you can incorporate.
You said she is cruising, this is great! It shows she has strength to stand and move around. It could be that she doesn't feel confident yet in making the next step with independent steps
Hi my son is 6 so not a toddler. We are in the process of trying to move him from mainstream to special school. He is ASD and pre-verbal. Been trying to find a placement for a year but no progress. He has made lots of progress in the last year including toilet training which we thought would never happen
My boy is the same age, no interest at all. I really wanted to try before he starts schoolAww wow well done to you and your boy on the potty training! My girl is 3.5 and has literally no interest in potty training at all. Maybe next year .
Have you thought of appealing and taking your LA to tribunal for a school place? If they've specified a sen provision in an EHCP then youve got grounds to take them to one!
