Nigel Farage

I don’t think anyone anti mass immigration is anti brown people, it was coming from the EU as well. It’s the same line of thought as squawking racist whenever anyone makes a point about it

I think (and I don't mean people posting here) that for some people, discussions around immigration have been quite a convenient way of voicing their opinions on people who aren't white, unfortunately. You just have to look at the cesspit that is Twitter to see some of the language used.

Yeah and that what makes it all a big mess and tars Nigel with promoting things he hasn’t actually said etc, as he’s associated with these people. He and all politicians should be more careful and less inflammatory to avoid that.

I'm more talking about the 'stop the boats' bollocks than Farage's old playlist (I'm happy to deny him the oxygen of publicity that he craves) - it's a classic 'look at this - don't look at that' diversion tactic by the current shower. The country is a mess, yet people are huffing about a handful of folk on dinghys, as if stopping them landing on the south coast will cure all ills.

Er, Nigel's whole raison d'etre is to be inflammatory.

Agree, I live on the outskirts of London in a community that is mostly made up of immigrants and it is feral. Absolutely zero integration is happening and they treat the area like a rubbish dump, it is filthy. Coming from New Zealand where we are taught at a young age to “be a tidy kiwi” it is sad to see.
I live in a part of London where I'm in the minority as a white person - and I love it. I'd hate to live somewhere where it's pretty much only people who look like me.

Yeah but how many of these boats are coming?! If it was like four boats a year then yeah there’s bigger issues, but they’re apparently coming DAILY (happy to be corrected). What other country has boatloads of daily migrants?

Also a load are from France

I don’t usually watch Breakfast TV, but as I have had a week of working from home - I have watched Good morning Britain (the 6am-7am part of the show) each morning. It has been an eye opener for me - they talk about the same few topics on a loop!
What I did find odd, is that the presenters talk about ‘the boats’ like it is the only route people have into the country to claim asylum. Most asylum seekers come in on aeroplanes - this idea seems to escape the presenters of Good Morning Britain.
People can come to this country as visitors, students, short term workers etc and then can go missing - living her illegally. Some then pay for false documentation that can make them appear legal (often involving fake / stolen identities). Some people live here anonymously for a while and then present themselves to the authorities as seeking asylum, often with little or no documentation that says who they are.
You would think from listening to the media that we stop boats coming over, and the issue of uncontrolled immigration is solved.

Regarding London, it is not the only place in the UK were people of different backgrounds live together. I’m sure most posters know this - that there are other cities in the UK that have much older established minority communities.
Resources are now squeezed to the limit though. I believe that a majority of us are pro controlled immigration, and most of us are against uncontrolled immigration. It doesn’t make us intolerant - it means we understand what is realistic / wanting everyone who lives here / settles here to have a decent life. Not people living on the streets with resources unavailable, as the situation has become unsustainable.

I think this is the Left’s problem right now. When people don’t agree with them, they just get personal and offensive. It really doesn’t help them sway opinion!

But this has to cut both ways here. I'm left wing and oppose Farage and all of his views and I don't think I, or some other folk, have been offensive or personal at all? There are quite a lot of double standards going on here. There's been a lot of 'prove it', which I'm happy to do as the info is out there, but, to be fair, I don't recall asking anyone to prove that he *isn't* racist, which would be a fair ask. I'd like to see where he's said that he'd like our disabled people, in particular, to be better cared for, or women. I don't just have an issue with the fact that I think his policies and rhetoric are a cover for his racism, I also think he's a misogynist.

It’s partly the government wasting money and resources on nonsense yeah, but that money WOULD stretch farther if there weren’t so many people wanting treatment and things would be less desperate. Say a group of 10 people has £20 to buy food and some tosser buys a Pret sandwich for £5. That’s obviously not okay. But then suddenly say oh here’s another 30 people who want to share it and the nob still buys the sandwich. It doesn’t make what he did okay, but it makes the situation even worse 😆

I absolutely agree with you. Not everyone on the Left is like that, obvs (I have loads of Leftie mates who don’t call me a thick Brexiteer gammon, and we happily agree to disagree), but a sizeable and vociferous number which I honestly don’t think you get on the Right.

Have you driven on a motorway recently

I very regularly drive over 200 miles from one part of the UK to another and have done since the mid 2000's (and also to various other parts miles away) and haven't noticed a difference, bar the endless stream of roadworks that seem absolutely never ending (although I like the 50mph bits as I usually have a fag then 🤣). I'm genuinely curious about this comment.

The NHS is understaffed because people working in it are dropping out thanks to poor pay & conditions and we are nicking doctors and nurses from abroad instead of training people from the UK. The majority of the extra demand is from the ageing population and the fat folk with type 2 diabetes and complications, unfortunately. But people don't want to hear that...

Oh definitely agree about the left there (and I know and correct similar friends myself). I do think it's similar on the right too though, it's just it tends to be more online perhaps?

There's a lot of issues with the NHS unfortunately and I don't think a small (comparatively, to the general population) volume of people settling here are the issue, to be honest. I know people who work 'on the ground' in the NHS and it's an absolute shitshow. There's an absolute incompetence in managing basic things like appointments (pointed out to me by the family and friends I know who work there and have sadly ended up having to access healthcare because of Long Covid or cancer) and a very large volume of vastly, vastly overpaid non-clinical staff on Band 8a/b/c roles. I wasn't aware of quite how many of those roles there were until recently and I was quite appalled.
