It makes me really angry tbh. I think it was one of my biggest bugbears with her. I understand the sentiment, but is the most icky form of able-ism. I know everyone has different experiences and I'm glad she was able to, but everyone I have known in her position did not have the luxury of choice, like we've said many times, whether it be lack of finances, children to look after, jobs to go to alongside their treatment etc etc. For most people, all the requirements on them don't stop because of their illness, life just gets a million times harder. Nic had nothing required of her at all, was already well off and then received donations from well meaning strangers. What an utter place of entitlement. Not to mention most people by this point are in awful physical states because of the extent of the illness (and the fact the majority get minimal treatment options because of postcode lottery, lack of resources etc).
I look at loved ones I've seen suffer this evil disease, bed bound in unbelievable pain, soiling themselves, unable to wash without assistance, incoherent and literally wasting away - all while fighting the system to receive the most basic of benefits. And I think to anyone who has the audacity to say go grab life, stick it up your bleeping arse.
