I wonder what the legal ins and outs are when it comes to character ownership? For example if someone wanted to start a brand new show but with the same actors playing the same characters. So say some TV company was like I don't want to bring back Neighbours but I want to sign up Stefan and Rebekah to do a spin off show as Paul and Terese (which would be better than nothing). I don't know if a company could do that or there would be legal issues first to who owns the Neighbours brand and everything to do with it.

All characters are copyright of Freemantle. Anything for profit would be a huge no, unless Freemantle were paid royalties. This may be prohibitive in many cases.

'Fan film' type productions that are not for financial gain may be easier to get past.

Helen's death I've already posted a few posts previously.

Anne Haddy (Helen) was in poor health, and was notable absent for large parts of 1996 and 1997. Helen essentially returned in 1997 to be killed off.

It be nice if a company not interested in the whole show bought the rights to a few characters for a spin off and then introduced new characters they would own of their own.

Cast and crew still in Melbourne and available were all invited to her house to watch the finale unless you were a Rodwell it seems haha.

 
I see that it’s on at usual time this afternoon and also at 9pm - is this the same episode (repeat) or should I watch both? I thought it was just going to be 9pm but an extra episode would be amazing!

The 2pm episode (repeated at 6pm) is the penultimate episode - and the last ever half hour one.

The episode at 9pm is the final ever episode, running at an hour in length.
